Re: HIT AWAY AND ZIP AND HIT
For youngsters, the roto twin is better than both. 2 balls that rotate on a tee. But when the big boys get a hold of it, it doesn't last. The 2 you mentoned are more for 12 and under. Nothing like an old fashioned tee and sock net.

Re: Boycott Gatorade
First of all, the argument of s****r being the most popular sport in the world doesn't work with me. This is America and s****r is NOT an American sport. We do not need this country to be more like the rest of the world. I'm coaching 7&8 year olds this summer. There's no way they can learn in s****r what they are learning by playing baseball. "Run down there and try to kick the ball into that huge net." Duh.

Appeasing terrorists is big in most of the "outside world" today. Should we emulate that? For crying out loud, commie kickball is big in France! As TR says there is more to the world than what's between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, and Canada and Mexico. This IS America, and we belong to this fraternity of other countries on this little thing we call Earth. Golf is not an American sport, and to me to watch used to be extremely boring, even more so than socker. I didn't start watching golf until I started playing and could appreciate the skill it takes to hit a little white ball with a long stick. Even today I'll pass over a...

Re: "Official" Score was 1-1?
Determining the World Cup winner on penalty kicks seems odd. First - what was the penalty? Why call them penalty kicks? Second, out of ten kicks, the goalies got their hands on a grand total of zero balls. In 7 or 8 out of ten kicks the goalies dove the wrong way. This is somewhat akin to game ending when the shortstop dives toward third on a ground ball up the middle. The Cup was decided on one guy who couldn't kick the ball into a wide open net when the goalie dove the wrong way. Pretty...

Re: Back Spin
Agree with Texan that backspin does help the ball carry and is ideal on most hits. But... It is not ideal to swing down in order to create the spin. Any carry that is added will be negated by the lack of force produced by swinging down. A ball should be met squarely to produce the maximum amount of force. In other words, if you want to produce force in a 10 degree upward angle (line drive over the SS head), the bat should collide with the ball at that 10 degree upward angle. Picture hitting...

Re: HITTING TEES vs. SHORT TOSS
I've seen some of my kids roll their eyes when I get out tees... but Tony Gwynn is HUGE on tees and that's good enough for me.. also my older kids that have used the tees A LOT are big believers in them... so I say T it up boys... we do a lot with the pitch away and we set up an L-shape to the oppo side and play a game we call "hockey"... you try to score a goal by hitting a line drive into the net... the kids like it.

Re: Jason Urquidez
I hope he doesn't have Robb Nen's shoulder problems. I don't know if he is doing this by design (e.g. as a source of power), or if he is just doing it to prevent rushing, but the net result is good. It keeps his glove-side hips closed longer, which lets him more powerfully rotate his shoulders. Steve Carlton did something similar (but his glove-side toe didn't actually touch the ground)... http://www.chrisoleary.com/documents/PitcherAnalysis_SteveCarlton.pdf

Re: Visualization
I think visualization is powerful in and out of sports. I use it while I'm on the mound, in between innings and at night...very often, obviously. I've found that running the visualization both backward and forward from the desired focal finishing point is good for me. In basketball, that would be from the first dribble to the ball dropping out of the net. Thanks for the insight...glad to hear it works for others. I wish I'd utilized this tool at an earlier age.

Give him an Escalade - the net $2M - and a Bagwell Day at the stadium with a banner in centerfield. That is that. A No-Brainer. End of deal. He is done. IMO.
