Should the Cardinals bring him back?
Replies sorted oldest to newest
For one game, sure? Otherwise, not a chance they or any other NL team takes him.
Baseball is a cruel business.
Its going to be interesting because he left due to poor dealings with Cardinals GM.
Pujols always took care of the young guys from the DR. He would make a great leader for the new guys. Hitting instructor for example.
I think TLR will grab him.
He was a legendary hitter and played till the game said "enough", yes the DFA looks cruel, but he sucked the marrow clean from the sport.
"True Story"
When my son visits the MLB teams and he talks with the players about SSK bats and gloves.
Albert said "tell your father thank you, he found me".
During our 1998 Area Code games, I prepared the rooster for our Royals AC team.
A phone call from a Agent who I trusted, suggested that I place a player named Albert Pujols.
I checked with the Pro Scouts, "no scout" had a report, however my instinct was to "out scout" the scouts and Albert played in the 6 games at Blair field, Long Beach with over 300 scouts and Scouting Directors watching.
"The rest is now history".

Great player and an amazing career. Unfortunately his contract seems to continue the theory that signing long term, high dollar contracts for players clearly in the second half of their career isn't always the best investment for the team.
So let's say he does come back to the Cardinals to retire how does that work with the roster? Do they have to take someone off the 40 / 25 man roster to do this even if it's just ceremonial? How would that affect options?
I'm glad he went out west because he killed my Cubs for years. But he was fun to watch

Whoa. The things you've seen and done, Bob. Thanks for sharing this.
the man was an outstanding pro for many years, future HOF...the way i read it was the story he told the Angles that if they were going to ask him to have reduced role he would rather be released, so they did. i wish baseball would treat me as coldly as he has been treated!!
He's actually 47 years old in real life not 41 in 15% discounted Dominican years.
Sorry, but I always thought what he and others did was really, really shady. I know he had done a lot of great things for the St Louis community and others, but essentially he lied to get a favorable contract. Maybe some time and distance will change that, but he's going to be thought of in that way by a lot of people.

While in Puerto Rico, son and Albert met in a Dennys by accident. Son had been on the roster with him in 2010-2011.
I know folks didnt like what he did, but they don't know the entire set of circumstances that made Pujols leave and could be why he won't retire as a Redbird.
He lied, he produced, his age ended up being a non factor, the Angles knew damn well before they signed him. All fair in love And war I guess.
Yeah not feeling bad for billionaires being cheated out of money especially considering that pujols (like any young star) was exploited financially the first couple years of his career.
So what you say Dodger fans?
Surprised a NL team would take him
Dodger Stadium is 330' down the line with a "light breeze" to left center. A "short term" rental.
Visions of Gibson???

I'm surprised the Mets didn't sign him and put him in the outfield.
Rumor has it wife wanted family to finish out the season in LA. They live in St.Louis in off season.
