Interesting fact I learned from an EV parent tonight,

This is the 7th straight year, that EV has been to the conference championship game and is also the 7th straight year that EV has been to regionals.

Not many programs can boast that type of an accomplishment.

Game is set Thursday 6pm @ Fauquier congrats to both teams

 

The winner gets the runner up of Conf 24, the runner up gets the champ of conf 24

Conf 24 from what i could find is playing their semi final

Bassett @ EC Glass plays today 3/27

Salem @ Jefferson Forrest plays today 3/27 

Good luck to EV and Fauquier tonight should be a good game

 

Conference 24 championship is also set as

1 seed) EC Glass beat Bassett 

2 seed) Jefferson Forrest beat Salem in a walk off 3 run bomb by Zach Duff.  

 

The winner of  2) EV vs 1) FHS will play host to the runner up of 1) ECG vs 2) JF

The runner up 2) EV vs 1) FHS will travel to the winner of 1) ECG vs 2) JF

EV @ JF highlights:

JF was as advertised, and EV played solid, JF had 2-d1 kids SS/P C.Bourne to JMU, C/P Duff to Radford (nice arm behind the plate), even some of their outs were hard outs, EV took a 2-0 lead, after manufacturing in the fourth inning, of Stead, Easter and Tocker, Stead took a no no into the 4th inning with 2 outs then walked a batter, then gave up back to back doubles (only two hits by JF), but stead lost his rhythm and proceed to walk the next two batters which loaded the bases with two outs and was pulled after relief pitching walked one more run in to make it a 3-2 game JF, neither team could add to it, JF pitched Bourne then 3b/P I. Hall, both teams played a solid game.  

 

The Young EV team should be proud after a 2-9 start to put it together and make it 7 straight years into a conf/dist championship game (also well played vs fhs), to get where they are. Next year should be fun to watch in the conference as Court, KG, EV, Chanc, all have alot returning, fhs returns player of the year and some and liberty will be reloading. Good Luck to fhs.

Anyone know what the status of the Woodgrove v Harrisonburg game for tonight is?

FHS has to travel next two games no matter what because of yearly top bracket switch for host in semis/final of region...that's a voted decision by AD's and can't believe they do it this way...total crap...Woodgrove gets the home game when FHS is 17-4, 12-0 conference champs, and Woodgrove 16-6, 9-1 conference....their conference only plays 7 conference games too in reg season...they lost to conference opponent Loudoun County 5-0 when was a non conf game...irregularities abound by VHSL on the last realignment all over the state as well...thoughts??

I don't understand how a team with a better conference record gets a lower seed?

Each region has the choice to decide how they want the tournament format etc...so explanation I received from AD is that the flip the bracket ea yr, so next yr if conf 22 champ we to advance to semi or final they would host regardless of record...can't believe that vote passed...you should be rewarded for record if both conf champs playing on one side....not flipping it ea yr...wouldn't matter if FHS was 21-0 ....teams play all year to have that home field advantage...

Yea i remember them seeding everyone based on the conference, no matter the record.  Either way best of luck i will have my eye open...

So in conference play a team really gets no reward for winning the regular season, except seeding in the playoffs and in regional play you get no reward based on your regular season play at all. I'm sorry but that ridiculous.

I agree totally, unforutunetly the conference/regionals are based on a AD vote as far as format goes etc. It used to be reg. season champ automatic bid to Regionals, so yep there is no reward really for your record right now, why it really is frustrating this year, especially when havent been to regionals with the new regime. I just am struck at why AD's would want the bracket in regionals this way? I mean, just seems it was the easiest decision at the time.  Even crazier, FHS joins a new conference next year, as VHSL has adopted restructuring again for 2015-2017. 4A switches from N/S to E/W. FHS will be in the West, Conf. 22 ( John Champe, Kettle Run, FHS, Liberty, and Freedom)  Currently 4A N has 28 teams in it, next year 4A West will comprise of the same. Dont forget we go on a points system next year, most conference will be doing it anyways not sure if all.

This is the way it was explained to me:

7 points for any win 

0 points for a loss to a team in the same level or below: 

2 points for a loss to a school one level above ex:5A 

3 points for a loss to a school two levels above ex 6A

Yes the finals would be Saturday. 

Points system, are you serious, is this futbol now? I dont see that working out, a team like Freedom in our conference next year, because of location can play every div 6 in a close proximity for non conference. With less teams in conference, more non conference so more chance for points, even if lose. Other squads dont have the luxury, esp. with budgets, etc...I mean you can totally control that system to an extent if you are a mid level squad and wanted too....also if its 7 pts for any win, would some schools soften non conference? Def. could, most coaches want to be challenged, but others that want an easier way to postseason if presents itself. To think I almost applied for a position with VHSL after college, smh haha

I just don't see why they need to make something simple into something complex. I mean why can't a win be a win, then have a few tie breakers and if you get past 3 or 4 of those flip a coin?

Exactly, who knows, maybe they have a new board member on VHSL and they needed something to do at their annual meetings other than play golf, eat/drink for free......haha

 

If that is a definite than you are going to have all kinds of issues I feel, especially opens the opportunity for more shadiness.....

For Example: 15-5 regular season, 15x7 =105, lose 2 games to 5A schools so 2x2=4 105+4 = 109 / 20 games 5.45 would be point rank. which in 5A south would put them at slightly below hanover, and ahead of churchland.

I understand the math. What I don't understand is the need for it. I mean it seems like they are complicating something that is pretty simple.
