Thank goodness for Menchville because if they had not beaten Indian River all of us would have to go around Chesapeake listening to how good Indian River is and how they are just so much better than evryone when in truth they really only have one great player on the squad (Dean Ali). They may have heart but in truth they are the luckiest, cockiest, ***'s in the whole world.

Wow. That was by far the most mature comment i have ever seen... Please grow up..

But yes congrats to menchville, they played a great game, as well as IR did. By far one of the most entertaining games i have ever seen.

side note, if there are any menchville fans out there, please grow up. Your crowd was not only hateful, but bush-league and down right childish.
chanting " Dean Ali Sucks ", " IR sucks", or " you guys are bulls***" is down right disgraceful to the game. and to top it all off, i witnessed several Menchville fans climbing the fence behind where IR was leaving the field trying to start a fight.. after talking to some of the IR players, i heard that the Menchville players were for the most part classy, and its a same that fans have to ruin this game we all love so much
I thought both groups of fans were classless. I am not sure which was worse...Menchville chanting "Bull$h!t" or IR telling the ump he "f'ing sucks" while holding infants.

I was very impressed with IR. They played a great game and battled the entire game. Although, they let their emotions get the better of them at the end.

I thought Chrismon threw WAAAY too many breaking balls but he had very good stuff. Poor Menchville defense gave IR 3 runs. BTW, how does Menchville blow 2 squeeze bunts?!?
So, you are trying to identify who is "more wrong"? Really? I was on the IR side and heard similar comments directed at Carter and others. Either way, it is uncalled for. And...for a HS kid to get thrown out of a game when he wasn't even involved in the play in ludicrous. Both sides should be embarrassed.

I'm sure Cox would like to have a say in the "best team" argument.
i`m sure cox would like to have a say, and don't get me wrong they are a good team, and the deserve to advance to states, but if they were matched up against IR or Menchville in the Region they probably would not be playing still.. thats my opinion you can disagree all you want.

and as far as the whole crowd thing, you may have heard stuff that i did not hear during the game, but you obviously did not witness what happened as IR was trying to leave.... and as far as the player being thrown out, it was "ludicrous", but on the umpires part. In no way shape or form did he warrant getting thrown out of the game, and that is a fact, and i witnessed that part
Well...I have heard from 2 separate people on what Cartwright did to get ejected and I will say this...it had to be VERY obvious for the 2B umpire to eject someone from the dugout area. Just think about that one.

And, no...I didn't see what the Menchville fans did after the game. If it was what you described then it was ludicrous as well.

Either way, you are trying to identify what is more wrong than the other. To me, both were wrong. I was simply an impartial observer.
I`m trying to identify what is more wrong? If i do recall you are the one who for each and everything i have said countered with something that IR has done wrong..
FYI the title moderater does not also mean " only person who's opinion matters"

oh and btw... the 2B umpire was almost inside of the IR dugout when the incident occured

regardless, best of luck to Menchville and Cox at states. As long as the deep staff of Menchville continues to pitch well, look for them to make a run, even if the D remains shaky
Regardless of the situation, any player leaving the dugout like that to argue balls and strikes is dumped...thats what coaches are for. IR is lucky the guy that got rung up didn't go to for trying to make his way back to the plate. My question is where were the assistant coaches in all this? Steve West should not have to come all the way from third base to control that dugout. As someone who has played division I college baseball, these kids need to understand that at the next level, its not just getting ejected from a game, its an embarrassment to yourself, coach, team, and most of all THE UNIVERSITY you play for. At that level, the consequences are much greater than sitting out the next game. My last point is I don't know if anyone was looking at Cartwright as a college prospect, but he might have cost himself some opportunities tonight.
ive seen menchville play in the region tourney before...their fans were just like this back a few years ago...very classless...ive also witnessed a lot of trash talking from some of the southeastern district teams before...its seems to me that the only district with class as a whole is the beach district...why werent any of these fans kicked out of the stands? if odu is going to allow these fans to act like they are then they arent going to stop...im guessing it wont get any better during the championship.
Immu ,
Your comment that the beach district is the only one with class is truly representative of the beach, selfserving and inaccurate.I agree we read the many post of the IR fans and they were certainly anticipating better at this stage.I am sure if the rotation allowed them to play the beach district IR's aggressive play would be rewarded at this years event. The real chokers of the tournament was Maury and the loss they had with the placement Maury should have taken advantage.I have not witnessed the inner city eastern district act the way of IR or Mench, but I don't believe they(IR and Mench) represent the whole of there districts and I have been to many of the south eastern games.I have seen beach folks act equally ugly from Kempsville losing to Cox and FC,so don't make these unwarranted comments they bring no new insight here.
First of all let me add to the conversation that Menchville is 22-1, the #5 team in the country according to BA, and the guy on the mound has lost one game in two years while being verballing committed to a top 25 collge team (ECU) as a SOPHOMORE.

The guys knew what they were up against. They also knew they would be up against not only a very talented team, but a very emotional, fiery team (and crowd). They were extremely fired up, maybe too much, but they wanted to prove that they could play on their level and knew they had to match their intensity in order to play with them.

As far as Chris goes...
* The ump that tossed him was 5 feet from the first base foul line inside of the bag when he gave him the heave.
* Chris said just before the game started, "I don't want this to be my last game."
* Chris was fired up even more by some comments made directly to him on the field by Menchville's players, a coach, and the fans throughout the game. Did he let himself hear too much? Hard to miss a player or coach right beside you saying some really classless things... and their fans were plenty loud for anyone to hear.
* His outburst was directed at their fans and their reaction/words when Alley went down, not the umpire.
* Chris would run through a wall for any of his teammates or family. He is a kid any coach would want on their team due to his ability to keep his teammates together, and we all appreciate everything he has brought to IR baseball.
* Chris is going to Chowan to play golf & knew this was it for him.
* You have to remember, these are 16-18 year old guys who knew that they were playing "the #5 team", for a trip to STATES, and if they lose their HS career was over.
* Too emotional? I don't think so. Should he have let their fans get in his head? No. Does it excuse any rude behavior? Absolutely not. Do you think yesterday was one he'll hurt for a while about? Heck yes.

As far as the game, everyone mentions Menchville's E's, but only 1 of their 5 runs was earned as well. Some costly mistakes on D, coupled with a lack of clutch hits (left quite a few in scoring position) was the difference.

Regardless, Menchville is a great team, and as someone mentioned earlier, the majority of their players our guys had no problem with. Some were talking some stuff out there that only the guys on the field know about, but the majority played with class.

To have adult fans chanting classless things to high school kids, that, I hope, everyone can agree on is beyond understanding. To have the same ADULT fans go ALONG with some Menchville players and climb a fence to go after some guys on the other team on the way to their bus to ridicule them?? Never have seen that before and hopefully never will again.

Anyway, I notice that this site revolves around reporting scores ... and being extremely negative about other teams & people, and that is a shame. Many posts here are very immature and classless themselves and they aren't written by 17 year olds either, so if I don't respond to a post, it'll be because of the clear lack of mature quality.

To all your comments about the fans and the bad sportsmanship.
This is still the VHSL. Under no circumstances should fans be permitted to chant inappropriate things. All school age fans may be penalized for their actions at any high school sporting event. All other fans may be escorted out!
It would be more appropriate to contact the VHSL or the administration of the school of your concerns.
It is also possible for the umpires to control the situations in the stands by giving the coaches a warning.
There are also high school admin people at these games. Go voice your concerns to them.
"its seems to me that the only district with class as a whole is the beach district" IMMU

I would like to bring you attention to Wiley Lee/Great Bridge, Steve Gedro/Hickory, Shawn Todd/Grassfield, Roland Wright/WB and think about the statement you made.

As far as fans go, Fans are Fans...it doesn't matter if they are parents or kids. Ever been to an ODU basketball game and the opposing team misses a free throw...."you suck" out of the student section...should we toss them from the TED? Here something to think about, in all sporting events fans dog the best players (it comes with the territory), so them chanting "Dean Sucks" is just their way of saying "wish my kid wasn't riding the bench for menchville."
IRHOOLIGAN: the saying is "ability never justifies attitude" if you are going to go around quoting me, at least get the quote right. Regardless, the Menchville team and fans were down right classless and I'm glad Chris Cartwright and other members of Indian River had enough fortitude and loyalty to stand up for each other.

Well the thing isn't so much riding the bench for menchville those kids are fine as was brought up before it is more of an issue of the audacity it takes to attempt to get physically violent although ignorent and unnecessary in its own way you are right Mr ALi played very convincing and successful ball this year and was rewarded for his play what is unacceptable is when a fan tries to stir something more then a attack on a players skill and tries to turn it into something more the same 5'3 kid that was making statments on the field was approached after the game for making comments to parties unnamed this is a high school sporting event and all futility and dispute is settled with that strike three call that was made instead a fan acted as though they have not won a game before and continued making statements on physical violence! the thing about high school is the kids are still kids and words that seem immature and ignorent to older more mature folks can really attack a 17 18 year old mentally but yes i agree there is class everywhere and good luck beach ball they do approach the game with much respect
Ok We got settling issues here

I was on the Menchville side and must say the kids have spirit and IRHooligan your age obviously shades yur ideaology!! you are one special child if you feels that actions taken by your team were not as disgraceful if not more then those taken by the menchville players and fans so just hush baby boy. Fact of the matter is is that Menchville is to strong and Sustain longevity. Indian River was unable to perform to the skill level of the better opponent and it showed in the attitude of your fans now since you like posting these Hoorahs of players KEEP IN MIND DEAN ALI WAS ONLY THE SOUTHEASTERN DISTRICT PLAYER OF THE YEAR WHO ARE THEY? So please jump off of him.

Now no matter what is said about this Cartwright Fella i must say he embarassed himself plain out nothing Indian river can do about its making silly childish gestures like that seemingly killed his teams mood in an instant so quiet about that and as far as i am concerned it was many high school players last game this year so people have to deal with it.

Now Back to IRHooligan I must say i have an idea of you and your pityful. your grandmah must be really disapointed in how you turned out I must say that I cannot believe you speak of keeping this and that on the field when if you are who your apperance makes you seem like then you were right down on the field giveing rude stares at the end of the game like i said move along and i also got to witness IR fans parosing at the fence as Menchville fans walked by so there is equal injustice now CONGRATS MENCHVILLE and IR good attempt.....I Guess

I don't mean to boast or anything and it is certainly not just Indian River but i believe the South Eastern District and its residents host home to 4 VERY IMPRESSIVE HIGH PAID ball players in Wright, Cuddyer, and the Uptons along with more so i must say it is QUITE an honor to sit in line with those guys ok!!!

Haha and yet You guys reputation exceeds expectation of ignorance again. Now first a little lesson in grammar and spelling since we make these immature pety attacks and call outs.

FIRST OF ALL I AM A SPECIAL CHILD AND MY MOMMY TELLS ME ALL THE TIME

Second of all baby boy is an insult that left when i left diapers so i appreciate the personal attack, Third my Grandma does love me and is proud of who I turned out to be and it Doesn't have an H at the end of it.

Now next you used the word longevity but i don't see longevity engrained in the menchville program, I see random spurts of luck and chance that compile into good years and bad years there is by far no dynasty there.

Now the Real issue with your reply Chris Cartwright,I have then benefit of hanging out with this kid on a regular basis and let me tell you it takes alot to get him where he was. He is one of the most laid back friendliest people you will ever meet and he does change moods. WHAT HE DID WAS IN NO WAY EMBARASSING by standing up for A position in which he believes he only expressed his right as a constitutional aabiding member of this america His actions might have been unjust but well stood for and I Can promise you that every Indian river fan and player will stand behind him there. So please Don'tbase anyones character on an action taken in a short spurt of time or play on anyones character you should meet the kid then you would feel bad cause you to would be touched by the warmth he can bring to anywhere on or off the field

SO way to be a quick judge and make a embarassing ignorent statement completely irrelevant to the topics at hands And on the note of our fans i BElieve they acted correctly in not coming over the fence and i DO BELIEVE You USed that word Parosing completely wrong

But yes sir or ma'am i am an 18 yr old indian river fan please keep your continuing post with the issue at hand thank you

I think it is time for the moderator to end this thread. We have no congrats here, just blame, accusations and immaturity. This whole message board was supposed to be to promote high school baseball and its players but has turned in to nothing but griping and complaining over the years. I have not posted in a long time because there is very little worth-while information anymore. Everyone GROW UP
I have no problems with a team member standing up for his team, but it should have never gotten to the point of him being tossed. I posted this question earlier about the assistant coaches...they should have been in the dugout to make sure no one (except themselves) went to warm up the bus. Having played under many of the great coaches in this area (Coach T, Coach Levelle, Coach Booth) competitiveness is a strong emotion and one that is vital to be a great ball player. But you also have to be smart, when cartwright got dumped, the game was only 5-3, IR had a runner on first and was in the top of their lineup. What if they'd come back? What if VHSL suspended him for 2-3 games (i don't know what the normal penalty is, so I'm speculating)? It doesn't look so good now going into a state tournament without your starting first baseman, who by the way, can also pitch, and is also a left handed stick. But I still say the coaches should have recognized the emotional level of the team and reacted accordingly.
