UMD will improve again this year.

key series will be 1st ACC @ WF, @BC and Duke. winning the VT series would be a plus too. They need to win those and avoid getting swept on other weekends. April is ig as they have a lot of home games. With that they can make the ACC tourny

umterps.com has previews

1st two weekends are tough UCLA*3 (#4 in PAC12) ECU,WCU, Purdue(#2 B10) then come home and open with Manhaten *4, Delaware and @ navy before ACC.

I think they can be between 9-3 and 6-6 going into ACC.
Landed this morning on red eye from LA. Here's my take on the UCLA vs. Terps series.

This is a different team this year. Hear from many there are no individual agendas, its all about the team they are tired of losing. The pitching was very good. Friday;Fitzpatrick pitched well and he was sick. Jimmy Reed was great. The UCLA pitcher was a stud, nasty. I think the guys were over matched a bit early but they hung with him. Saw Coach Bakich in elevator and felt the kid had first round talent. Their closer came in throwing 96 but had no clue. We had a few solid hit balls but not many. Bummer was Etchinson dislocated his finger and will out a few weeks. Cleary did a nice job filling in.

Saturday, Carroll wasn't sharp bit hung in there. Kiene hit a three run bomb to tie it. Overall I think our guys hit the ball very well just not a lot of luck. Wacker was nasting in relief. Sunday UCLA made two many errors and Brett Harmmond was very very good for being out so long - he could be a big plus for us.

If our pitching holds up they will win a bunch of games. The defense was solid, ARod made some great plays he is fun to watch. Tim Kiene hit the ball great, his last home run was rising as it hit the light pole. The guy can hit and doesn't K much for a power hitter. Hockaday did a very nice job at third and hit well -he's a big addition. Even though we didn't get many hits the guys hit the ball very hard just at people and UCLA did make some excellent plays. Terps K'd 14 times on Friday and only 3 and 4 times on Sat and Sunday, they were getting the bat on the ball. Just based on watching the AB's the sound of how the ball coming off the Terp bats I think they will improve. UCLA pitching for the most part was above average.

I know its only one series but having watched a bunch of games last year - its my opinion this team is going to be very competitive.

To answer the question about Jeff Crosswhite he voluntarily left school at the end of the semester, he has a career plan that he wants to pursue and baseball wasn't that important to him. Great kid, great family and I wish him luck.

I have been up since 6am Sunday so no comments about spelling and my sentence structure.
Thanks Coach,

Batting 4th isn't his favorite but as he said I'll do what they need me to do to help the team. His stats weren't good but he was one of many that hit the ball hard on several occasions. Had two hits taken away but that's baseball. The toughest one was on Saturday in eighth, they were down one with two outs man on second and he hit a hard liner to right, the kid made a diving catch, big groan, it would have tied the game - bummer.

Didn't start out to great with two k's on Friday I was sweating bullets. Third time up against Plutko down 0-2 and I'm thinking the hat trick K to start the season. He battled him fouling of 4/5 pitches and worked Plutko for his only walk. I think after that he settle down for the rest of the weekend. Only one hit but he was swinging it ok and he worked two more walks.

Alfredo Rodrequiz was another who hit the ball real hard but only had two hits. Convissar the same.

All in all not a bad start to the season especially the pitching. Lets hope they can add on to the success this weekend. These kids work real hard and they are a together group pulling for each other. That will go along way to help them gain some success. One parent told me he was talking to an admin person who travels with Terps basketball and football teams, he said they get on the bus and its headphones, no bonding etc. He said the baseball team is loose, singing, busting each other up etc. - his comment "a real team".

Is it true.

UVA Baseball dropped out of the top 50 in both baseball polls.
This little guy is going to win at Md. The field of broken bodies left in the wake of success is simply a hazard that the Terps are willing to deal with.

If you are wearing a redshirt this year and you're not injured, better see the handwriting on the wall -- TRANSFER -- you're not part of the future! Next year's recruits are top notch to replace the guys leaving after this season.
