Lane 3, Mather 1 - quite a bit better a game than I think the Lane boys expected. They tend to underestimate Mather, IMO. JP Palazon (5-1) went 6 innings for Lane, gave up that one run. Josh Colon came in in the last inning - although why they weaken their infield that way when they've got enough pitching... Argh! But I digress. Willy Davila provided the game highlight for Lane, safely stealing home - reaching it just as the pitch did. Good stuff.
I won't typically post here but last night we won an exciting game and since it was also against our rival, I wanted to post something from the game.

Triad 6 - Highland 1.

Highland is such a well coached team that any victory over the Bulldogs is an accomplishment. Thus our rivalry and our games attract a huge following. Highland even had their Middle School Band play the National Anthem and then Take Me out to the Ball Game. What a great atmosphere. Their ball diamond is TREMENDOUS! They had private funding donate around $50,000 to build one of the nicest facilities we play on. Now to the game. We had to battle as they had runner in scoring position in each of the first 4 innings. This included bases loaded and no outs. However, we kept them off of the scoreboard with key pitches and plays. We had to defend the suicide squeeze and turned that into a double play. My kid, Josh Daniels has to be one of the top competitors I've ever coached. He is now 6-1 and was 11-3 last year. Dusty Dineen started us off in the top of the 4th with a homerun that is still going. It left the yard and flew over a grove of trees. Later in the game Brandon Adams, a name you NEED TO REMEMBER, hit a bomb. Coach Czar, this is the same kid that hit a bomb against you guys. This one went even further. In the end, we win 6-1. This keeps us in first place on the win side in our conference. We are tied on the loss side with Waterloo who comes to our place next Friday.
A few weeks ago there was a thread about SW suburban baseball vs WSC baseball. Tonight, OPRF was fortunate to play Andrew high school. Their freshman and sophmore programs are today where our conference programs was a few years ago. They threw a #5 pitcher who had better stuff than 90% of our #1 and #2 pitchers. These kids sprinted on and off the field, never sat down, rooted for a sac bunt like it was a grand slam. They hit and run, executed well, put the ball in play, picked guys up after 3 outs and played the game like it needs to be played....with heart, determination and PRIDE. As I got back into the locker room and spoke to our sophomore staff, they said the same exact thing abouth their game. I have no idea what happened in the Varsity Game but my hat goes off to Coach Ganser and his staff for teaching the game the way its suppose to be played. You can tell that these kids have been playing unselfish baseball together for a long time.
Hopperhop nice job with the win over Maine South they're a very good team.

Glenbrook South won today vs Maine East in a close game 3-2. It wasn't the best played game ever as both teams pitchers pretty much shut down on offense. Pat O'Brien for Maine East and Eric Geldermann for GBS both threw well. 11 K's for O'Brien and 8 K's for Geldermann. Still sometimes you just don't hit and in those games you have to pitch well and play defense and I saw that from GBS today.
Final Conference Double Header.

Alleman - 3 Moline - 2

(oklahoma recruit) Andrew Doyle (11-1) outduels (western illinois recruit) Kirk Clark (5-1) in a well played game by both teams.

Alleman - 4 Moline - 8

Alleman held a 4-2 lead through 4 1/2. But in the bottom of the 5th Kirk Clark hit a 3-run homerun to put his team on top. And it was over from there.
