Sounds like GBN and Maine South are the best teams in their side of the CSL as of right now. Thats not to saw that other teams won't be a factor before the year is out, but they are both off to great starts. Seems like GBN holds the opposition to no more than 2 runs a game almost every day. I don't know that much about the 2006 Maine South Hawks, but I'm sure Kevin Manson has won a few of those games.
Lane Tech 12, Whitney Young 5

Scott Doebler went 4 for Lane and left the game after an awesome over the fence home run that gave Young their fifth and final run. If you're gonna get rocked, get ROCKED, I say. JP Palazon came in for the final 3 and closed the door on 'em, giving up nothing.

You had to feel for Young's starting pitcher (Hollis?), as a large number of men with radars crowded behind the backstop. Clocking him, BTW, at 91-94. And, if I'm not mistaken, he's the one who hit it out of the park, too. Still, he walked 10 and dropped to the mid-80s (like that's terrible, lol) before leaving the mound in... the 4th? Not sure. He did well, and had to feel some pressure, because no one was deluded into thinking these guys were there to see anyone else.
The umpires had a rough day in the Naz-Benet game for sure. Naz has an interesting defensive strategy - they seem to walk every batter and then try to pick them off base. I have never seen more pickoff attempts by a team - and the crazy thing is a lot of them worked. But Mr. Powers is a beast and Mr. Doyle is a good ball player too.
Beenthere, Powers was walked intentionally in the 5th to set up the call I was referring to. Doyle was up with the bases loaded up 4-3 with 2 outs. Naz brings in a new pitcher.

1st pitch curve ball hits him on the thigh and the ump brings him back because supposedly he didn't make an attempt to get out of the way. I say baloney.(And this is from an ND fan) After arguing the fact after the play and after Benet got out of the inning without scoring, the Benet coach goes back at him and got tossed so fast it made even my head spin.

Now, besides the fact there's no way in 8 pitches you can figure out exactly how pitches break, even if Doyle tries to move it's probably going to hit him anyway.
goomlah, you have mixed up two different stories from the Benet/Naz game . . .

Powers was given a free pass to first, but the hit batter did not follow him. Doyle did follow driving the ball into the gap in left field that drove in two runs.

Earlier, the Naz knuckle ball pitcher did hit his first batter pretty squarly with his first pitch and that batter should have been awarded first base. It was a bad call by the umpire.
Thanks, goom.

fungo...Happy to compare baseball knowledge and experience with you on any given day.

I haven't seen CP play this year but since I heard that Naz supposedly had a very good team, I was wondering why intentionally "walking" CP would not be a good idea in tough situations.

Don't know what that might have to do with Bonds and Showalter. Showalter's pitchers are PROFESSIONAL pitchers. Bonds is a professional hitter. Dramatically different scenario than a high school kid pitching to a high school hitter...even though the kid is muscular and as big as a house!

High School rule started a couple of years ago,
if batter makes no attempt to get out of way of a pitched ball and in the umpire's judgement(not spectators or coaches) the batter made no attempt then a ball will be called, unless the batter is in the strike zone at the time of pitch(leaning over the plate) then a strike is called. Quit your whining, play the game.
Ive been hit by more than a few pitches in the past few years...close to 40. And Ive had several taken back because I "didnt try to move." Ive come to understand that umpires dont really seem to take into account what pitch it was or what kind of movement it had on it. Ive been hit several times with a curveball that umpires thought I should have bailed out on instead of standing in the box waiting for the break. They just want to make the "hero" call. Its something that eventually is just dealt with.

That was a knuckleball pitcher? No wonder why Doyle stayed in the box. You think a high school batter can read a knuckleball? That is bogus.

hey weaver,

Nice pitching against us last week, seriously. You didn't deserve that outcome, and the score certainly blew up only after you left the game. I was going to pull you aside after we shook hands, but you went back to the dugout pretty quick. Looking forward to playing against you again for the next 3 years. Good luck. PS- who are you playing for this summer?

Reply to above statement: keyword thought, the umpire is god there buddy, you may have thoughts but it is the man making decisions. There are only heroes in war and most of them do more than play a game.
Quit whining, play the game.
