How is your son doing this spring?
How is your son doing this spring?
Everyone who had Gunnar in their thoughts helped to make more progress possible. This is the latest update from Gunnar's sister, Kalli:
"Another good day for the G man. He is making even more neurological improvements. His right side is really reacting and he wont let the nurses brush his teeth...Today my dad gave him the Homerun ball hit by Tyler Scott in the first wood bat game, to hold and Gunnar grasped onto it and wouldnt let it go. He is still breathing on his own with out the assistance from the machine ...over 24 hours! We are headed in the right direction and I am so proud of my brother for being such a fighter! Thanks again and again for all of your positive thoughts, prayers and blessings!"
Make a difference tomorrow. Give Gunnar and his family every positive thought and blessing you can!

What an AWESOME GOD!!! More prayers with good vibes Gunnars way.
Very touched by this thread and the support for this young man. This truly is the worst nightmare for the family of a young pitcher and very close to home for me. Thoughts and prayers go out to Gunner and his family God be with you and best wishes for a rapid and complete recovery.

The latest (yesterday, 3/30) from his sister's blog:
-----------------
Another good day in the world of Gunnar...he had an procedure to move his feeding tube from his nose to his stomach. He was really reacting to stimuli this morning and now is a little sleepy. The physical therapists have started working with Gunnar on little movements and he is responding. Hopefully tomorrow afternoon they will take out Gunnars breathing tube and he will fully be breathing on his own! Gunnar is doing so great and I cant wait to be back in Marin to be with my brother and the rest of my family.

God bless Gunnar and all of the attending doctors and nurses. And God bless all of the wonderful folks who continue to pray for Gunnar while he forges ahead.

Yes indeed. I believe in the power of prayer. And I believe that God has a purpose. I know many times its hard to understand why. In fact many times it seems impossible to understand. But I believe God will work miracles in Gunnars name. I pray for Gunnar , his family , friends and his Doctors. May the hands of God guide and direct those that care for Gunnar.

"There have been some great improvements in the past few days. Though Gunnar is still in the process of fully waking up from the coma he is coming much closer to the finish line. On Thursday Gunnars breathing tube was removed, and he’s breathing completely on his own. He looks more like himself without the tubes and tape on his face, or so I have heard from my parents. He is growing a bit of a mustache now...and it is not that great looking. My parents are seeing continued movements of his legs as well as some purposeful movements with his right hand, liking holding a baseball. Yesterday my dad turned the TV on in his room and though we are not sure if he was able to comprehend it, the Giants v A’s game played on his ICU television, and we’re hoping that the familiar sounds of baseball will help in his recovery. Gunnar has made some pretty big baby steps in the past few days and we are just hoping for lots more like them. We still know that it is going to be a long road filled with ups and downs so we live our lives moment by moment and day by day. This is a great start to a great weekend. Thank you all again so much for all of the love and support you have given Gunnar and the rest of our family...and I am glad that people who were confused as to where the money goes when you donate on this website have a better idea of who and what you are really donating to. I hope you all have a fantastic weekend and keep thinking god thoughts!"
Lots of prayers and thoughts and hope still needed.
Thanks to everyone of you who posted and for who have not posted but have Gunnar and the Sandberg family in their thoughts
I am immediately attracted to the seeming irony, beauty, and sensitivity that a baseball is being used for tactile purposes and the broadcast of the Giants-A's games for audio stimulation to hopefully help Gunnar's recovery from a baseball related injury.

Gunnar's sister Kalli posted this about their Easter Sunday:
"Happy Easter to all of you! I am now back in Marin with the family...if only the weather was a bit better. I got in last nigth and brought The Hangover to the hospital to watch with Gunnar...and although he is not speaking we got lots of smiles at his favorite parts of the movie. It was nice to just be with the family when Gunnar was happy. The last 72 hours Gunnar has made some major inmprovements. He is more awake and aware of his surroundings...but with being more awake he is starting to become sad and frustrated about the situation. We are there for him but we really dont know how much he understands and it is hard for us to sit and watch him. At 3am on saturday morning Gunnar was not sleepy so the nurses decided to tire him out by taking him on a walk. Thats right...Gunnar took a few supported steps...he shuffled his feet, one foot in front of the other. They have walked him a few times since then and he is doing great. This morning he was very emotional and just wanted to give mommy and daddy a hug. I think not being able to talk is really frustrating for him, but that will come with time. Now, for the first time in days Gunnar is taking a nice long nap. If his progession continues the way it has we hope to move him to a rehabilitation hospital in SF, in the next day or two. I will keep you all informed of any new developments.
On the fundraising side of things, thank you all so much for purchasing "got wood" t-shirts. Wristbands are now on sale for $5, they are blue and say Gunnar 17 on one side and got wood on the other. If you are interested in purchasing one you can email Joy Geraldi at: joy1020@sbcglobal.net OR Chris Miller at : chris@marinroofing.com. They will also be on sale at MC after the schools spring break. Shirts are still for sale and you can also make donations to the Gunnar Sandberg Fund at any Bank of Marin. Thank you all so much again for your love and support. Keep thinking positive thoughts. Happy Easter from the Sandbergs!"

Saw that infielddad. Must be both frustrating and exhilarating at the same time.

The latest as of about 1pm PDT today:
"Today is Gunnars last day at Marin General....he is leaving within an hour to go to a rehab hospital in San Francisco. Thank you all for visiting Gunnar and the rest of us at the hospital during these times but our time at MGH is now over. On to the next step! GUnnar is doing amazingly well. I am so proud of my little brother. More updates to come."
"I am so proud of my little brother." Boy, does that get a lump in my throat.
It sounds like there have been many little steps and today, one larger one.
Everyone single person who has chosen to bring Gunnar into their thoughts and into their day is making a difference for him and for his family. Long way to go, I would think. Everyone of you has made a difference in the path to date.
Let's all commit to continue to stay with Gunnar and do whatever we can to bring more support for Gunnar and his family, no matter how long this takes!
