My youngest son who is really just learning the game but managed to make our JV team had an exciting night tonight. He worked a walk on his second at bat and managed to find himself heading home for a play at the plate. He dove head first into the catcher under the tag and scored the run. We encouraged him to try feet first next time!
He also hit a nice line drive single with an RBI.

Cold Cold night! In the upper 40's, but no snow! Wink
Son's team won their first game yesterday 23-0...Son stuck out to lead off the game and then the second and third batters hit back-to-back HR's on back-to-back pitches...They jokingly 'thanked' my son that his 'K' made the pitcher think none of them could hit, so he started just throwing BP pitches... Smile

Son finished 1-2 with a triple, BB, HBP, and a Sac fly.
Congrats to GED10!

I have watched you as a dad help the kid in the hitting forum with his swing, and GED10 is lucky to have you around.

Good luck to him as the season continues. I really look forward to hearing more about him as he moves along in his future.

On all those K's....get used to that feeling. Catchers can have a great game, not one word. But let him miss one ball, then they like to mention the catcher. Someone once told 17 it is a great thing when no one notices you, means that you did your job.

See ya.
Congratulations to everyone! This is fun.

We are now 5-1, 3-0 in the district after a 9-inning win last night in the f-f-freeeezing cold 44 degrees! Big Grin

The other team scored 4 in the first on bloopers with eyes. 2B hit a 2-out 2-run double to the left center gap that put us up 5-4 in the 4th. They came back and the score was tied 6-6 going into the bottom 9th. We won with good old fundamentals. Leadoff speed demon forced an E-6, second batter bunted him over to second, third batter hit one down the right field line that scored the winning run. Go Blue Wave!
we in Illinois have no sympathy for cold baseball-- but I agree it is difficult and stinks.
My freshmen son just made his team he's pitcher R throws low 80's, great control and movement, working on change of speed, also a 3B with a rocket(no lollipop), 3E in 65 games last summer, bats 450 on summer team. Probably won't play varsity as they have 2 pitchers in 90s (both probably 1 for sure D-1)and 2more upper 80s all very good.
Congrats to all the sons hope you all have a great high school year
Anyone sons going to the 15u Cincy Flames Regional 49 teams signed up already
Or the WWBC in Marritte(spelling) Ga,(we went last year best tourny ever that East Cobb team was the best--parents to) Sorry so long
Sons 1st day of high school practice!!
Great news lebanon!! Good luck to a great season.

Jimmy Morrison in "The Rookie": "You know what we get to do today, Brooks? We get to play baseball."

I recommend all our boys and parents love every minute of it and have fun. The HS experience will be filled with a lot of ups and downs, good games and bad. Many years from now, you kids will look back at HS as the most free and exciting time of your lives.

For 99% of players, this will be the period where you have the most people that are interested in what and how you are doing -- from your parents to your friends, from your aunts and uncles to your neighbors, from the business owners in your city/town to the teachers at your school. Earn their respect by playing with your heart and leaving a legacy to the kids that will play behind you. Play for the name on the front of the jersey rather than the one on the back. Congratulate your teammates, encourage the non-starters to work hard, and give your coaches a reason to be proud of his team.

17's team has a nice start to the season, 6-0. 46 runs scored vs. 7 against. Everyone throughout the lineup has contributed, and we have had some awesome pitching performances. Only 3 errors through these first 6 games. No passed balls by 17, and 1 for 2 caught stealing. Tonight our sophomore rookie pitcher fanned the side in both of the 6th and 7th innings.

We are coming up on the 1/4 mark of 17's last HS season. I find myself being impatient for the next game to start, but as they arrive I want it all to slow down. I sometimes wish it was like "Groundhog Day" and we could stay in this final season forever, but know that all things come to an end. Someone on here said it can be the beginning of the end, but I am hoping it is the end of the beginning, and college ball will provide new excitement for this baseball fanatical family to embrace.

Thanks for letting the fastest 238 lb. second baseman in the state of Michigan (Beaverton Beavers Class of 1979 - and oh, did I mention that I was probably the only 238 lb. high school second baseman - at least that I saw) wax poetic this morning.
Our Varsity and JV tryouts were completed on Wednesday. Cuts announced Thursday am. Around 22 tried out for Varsity, 36 for JV. Coaches held full day tryouts on Saturday, indoor tryout on Tuesday due to the snow that cancelled Monday's activties, outdoors to throw/indoors to hit for 3 hours on Weds. Varsity took 18 players-10 Seniors, 6 juniors, 2 freshmen. One of the freshmen has a chance to start behing the plate. JV took 18, one returning Sophmore was cut.

24 is a Senior, LHP (Just a Pitcher, or Pitcher Only! Wink) and is on the team as the #2/3 starter or the closer, he is waiting for the Coach to let him know. He does not care, he just wants to get the ball when they need him. Coach believes they will compete again for the state title.

First Scrimmage is on Saturday, first Game on March 20th. Can't wait to be in the stands and cheer.
Well the last 2 days every OFer has struggled, not a one of us has caught every ball. Coach played College ball in the OF so he expects the uttermost best from us, and as of now no one really has done much of anything. When we were shagging today, we were just asked to try our best to catch every ball and still everyone struggled, I am one of them I have no problem admitting it. I'm not feeling 100%(may have a sinus infection) and I dont want that to be my alibi. I just hope to do better and end up getting a starting spot. I began to hit better today so I guess that was an improvement. Like my parents always tell me, I am to hard on myself, but I never think I have a good practice, I believe I can always do better. I think after a weekend of relaxing and getting some medicine in me, I will begin to feel better. To bad its suppose to rain all next week so it looks like some more indoor practices.
thursday night son pitched 2 for varsity 3 ks. closed out game. 18 pitches

friday afternoon pitched 4 for jv. didn't keep up maybe 5 sos, but pitched well

I'm not sure we did the right thing by allowing him to throw back to back. He said his arm was fine. He has noticed a big difference in pitch selection between v and jv. Think he may end up frustrated with jv coach on that score. Smile

BStop17 - Sounds like a great start, I hope things continue to go his way. You are right, it is starting to steam roll here too, we are ready for district play in 5 days!! Keep us posted on lil' (LOL) 17!!! GED10DaD
We had a beutiful weekend to play baseball and won all four games so were off to a 5-0 start!

Son did fine but I was most excited about one of our freshman pitchers. He got his first HS start in the fourth game and the third batter he faced hit a bomb for a two-run HR. Our pitcher was absolutely unfazed and went on the strike out the four and five batters. Later the four hole bombed him for a solo shot but he just kept throwing strikes and we won 9-4.... Cool
My son got his first HS win last night. Freshman pitching varsity against the number 6 team in the state. Went a complete game giving up 5 runs, 3 earned. Only walked one. Not sure how many stike outs, but I know he struck out the 3,4,5 hitters one inning. We won 7-5.

It was a real nail biter. First inning went 1-2-3, second inning he gave up a hit, then a pop-up HR, then 2 unearned. went the 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th inning not giving up any runs. We scored 6 in the bottom of the 6th to take a 7-4 lead. Team was pumped. He gave up an opposite field solo shot in the top of the 7th, but that was it.

I asked him if he was nervous. He said he was literally shaking in the last inning, but he pulled it out. Very exciting.
It's been an interesting week, but we are 6-2, 5-1 in the district. In Saturday's district contest, 2B came in to pitch in a very ugly game. Batter jacks one that bounced off the outfielder's glove and went out. During the game, one of our other players showed up both umps, one by gesturing to him after a K, the other by stomping on first base for an out after two "safe" calls when throws allegedly pulled him off the bag. He got a warning from the ump but no consequences - at least none that involved playing time.

Yesterday, we won a less ugly district game 14-8. Midway through, 2B popped out with runners on for the last out of the inning. He went to the dugout, and intended to toss his helmet on the dugout floor to grab his glove. The helmet ricocheted off the bench and made a loud noise. Coach heard it, assumed the worst, and benched him for the rest of the game. Go figure. Roll Eyes

No, I didn't say anything and I won't. I'm hoping one of the other coaches saw what happened, and maybe 2B gets an apology. But I doubt it.

Moving on! District game against out #1 rival on Friday! 2B will be setting his helmet down gently!

Son pitched one inning to close. He is pitching to a catcher who had surgery on his thumb in the fall. I don't think the young man is ready to come back, as one fast ball knocked his glove off. I don't think the coach feels son throws hard, but catcher also couldn't stick the curve.

One run scored behind an error, one strike out. (He faced the 2 - 5 batters in what was a fairly strong team)
Wow! I am so jealous of all you with sons playing right now. It is around 35 degrees in Illinois we are in our 1st week of practice. I can't wait for a game, I know my son is getting very ansy (SPELLING?)He is a freshman staring pitcher& 3B. He has worked so hard over the winter and I am sure wants to see how it has paid off, hopefully well. I can see by the post that you all have talented sons and I wish them continued health and success thru the season. Our 1st game is March 25 and I am sure my son will be wearing his under armour, I will tell you there have been many a day I was freezing (and they don't call it the windy city for nothing) and I have a coat, gloves, and stocking cap, watching baseball and the boys play with no comlaints ("it wasn't that bad?"--are you kidding?). I am a Heating and A/C contracter willing to switch to just an A/C guy any of you in the warm climates hiring?
