This past Saturday we had Umpires Scrimmage. LHP son pitched to five batters: pop-up, 3 SO, pop-up, with 15 pitches. We had temps. in the mid-60s with spring-like weather. Begin pre-season tournament at Noon on Monday the 16th. First "season" game on the 27th. Got my blanket ready because I know these temps. won't last long.
My son as a freshman, made varsity as a pitcher, JV as a position player.

We had an intra-squad scrimmage on Friday night. He pitched to varsity batters. Each pitcher faced 5 batters. He gave up one double, struck out four.

We have another intra-squad game this Saturday and first game against another team on Feb. 20. Hope the temps stay warm. 70 degrees today.

Good job for a freshman, How fast does he throw in order to get 4 Ks against varsity players?
Fastball cruising 81-82 with a 6"-8" tail. His ball was moving really well. Changeup 71-72, Slider 67-68. His control is pretty good. Keeps the ball low and can move it in and out. The one hit was on a change up that he left up a little. He said he hadn't gone over the signs with the catcher before he pitched and didn't realize what he was supposed to throw until he started his windup and had to change his grip in the middle of it.

Keep in mind that it is early and this was the first time the batters had faced live pitching this year. It was still nice to watch.

No wonder he can get those Ks, Freshman throws over 80 with movement will lock him in the Varsity team for sure. I think he could be a mid-week starter for most HS programs. Good luck for the season.

My son's "optional" workout was outside today in PA.
Great first scrimmage last night. Wind blowing in from beach in Aransas Pass TX at about steady 30 mph. Senior son still hit one HR to right about 330 and a double and triple to right field fence in 4 ab's. Pitched scoreless inning with 2k's and pickoff at first. Soph. son was one for four, two RBI's and one SB. Caught a good game. Won game 13-4 against 3A school. We are a 2A. Friday we scrimmage #1 3A in Texas--Cuero.
Good luck, lebanonbb!

Tuesday was a big night for the Blue Wave, and a great start to the season. We won 14-1. There weren't a lot of errors or walks for either team, our guys just hit the ball. 2B went 2 for 2 with a walk, RBI, and a couple of runs scored, tagged out a couple of runners trying to steal and has the cleat marks on his hand and wrist to prove it, and made an awesome play charging a slow roller to get the runner at 1B, and pitched the last out for a K. One of his teammates hit a 3-run homer in his last at-bat last weekend, and hit another 3-run HR in his first AB last night! He is a senior looking for a place to play next year - I think he will find one.

And, if anyone was wondering, yes, the first Director our school was a Tulane grad. Smile
