Well, It has been fun reading all of the great successes and the losses of the high school season on this board.

We won our game today to get into the district playoffs next week. My son got the nod on the bump in a winner play on and loser go home game. He pitched great today for not throwing a game in 3 weeks. Our team responded well after being off for a week. We hit well, scored a bunch and had some amazing defensive plays. Son was plumb tuckered after the game! Good to see our boys play great and live to play another day (actually 2).

We are the AZ 1A State Champions!

We rolled through State Tournament winning the four games by a combined 50-7! It was a total team effort.

Jr was selected the team MVP and hit .630 for the year and was 12-0 on the mound.

In the final 'Good Game' line the opposing coach shook his hand hand told him. 'I'm sure glad you're a senior'.... Smile

The ride is over! I'm going to miss this team Frown
My son's senior season just ended in the playoffs with him at the plate, extra innings, down by one run, leading the team in most hitting catagories and three hits in his last three trips on the day-- the runner on first gets himself picked off by the catcher while taking about a twenty foot lead. Where he thought he was going I'll never know.

Congratulations Hawk! Good luck at the next level whether that be college or pro...it's all good for Jr.

RR23
Golfball - Thanks...They were 25-2-1 this year and 14-0 in conference play. They were the first team to go undefeated since 1995...Jr started, finished, and won the 12 games in which he appeared.

RR23 - Next stop is University of Redlands. Jr will be a Bulldog next year. Good luck to your son in his Sr season next year. Will he pitch? I see you're losing most of your pitching to graduation (not to mention Joe the RBI machine...) Smile
Hawk; congrats... state champs, nothing sweeter.

We begin playoffs today, we are a .500 team that could win the bracket or get drilled in the first round.... it's been that way all year and that's why we are .500.

4:30 central time; think Go Trojans!!!

Holy Cow; 3bagger.... you talk about the walk of shame back to the dugout... man what a mess-up to end your season on.

The season probably ended today with a rainout due to field conditions. The game has been rescheduled. It's supposed to rain all week. No games are allowed after Wednesday. I would have liked to cherish the last time running on the field and the last at bats. The team was favored to win the conference as defending champions with most of the team returning. They were in first a third of the way through the season. They had a losing season. It was a season of turmoil. If losing reveals character the coach doesn't have any. Looking on the bright side my son had a very good season. It was great to see him on the field given he was supposed to miss the season due to late fall surgery. Then he was going to be able to DH. He was in the field the second week of the season.

Now he can start lifting weights, stretching out his arm and actually get into baseball playing shape. He'll play Legion this summer while he's rehabbing. While he was ready for high school baseball he's not physically ready to show himself as a college propect. He's lacking upper body strength from surgery and not being allowed to lift until now.

He decided to delay starting college for a year so he can showcase in the fall and winter. He didn't want to play D3 and wonder if he could have played D1. He didn't want to attempt to walk on at a D1 and fail from not being physically ready. He's going to work, take a couple of courses at a JuCo and pump all the money into baseball lessons with well connected coaches.

That sounds like a creative plan. The only thing I was not understanding about yout thinking last fall was the seeming all or nothingness of it. At your son's age, all or nothing decisions do not have to be made. In no way will he harm his academics and he just might open up one whale of a baseball opportunity for himself to go along with his academics. All the best to him and your family in the future.
He wasn't supposed to even lift a baseball until May. He's three months ahead of schedule making this scenario possible. His legs are fine. He ran a 6.8 and a 3.85 (to first). He hit 82 on the gun without having done arm stretching this season. He said his arm feels great. What he really needs is upper body strength. He hit a bunch of balls to the warning track or off the fence. Until last week he hadn't lifted in months. The surgery did a number on his strength.

We came up 1 game short. Got beat in the finals 4-0. Only 2 strikeouts but the other 19 outs were a combination of our impatience at the plate and the other team flat out turned in some web gems.... they earned it and they move on.
It was a season of ups and downs (12-11) but at the end we had a cohesive positive unit that was enjoyable to work with and be a part of.
I have to share again my gratitude for the folks on this board.

Right before the beginning of the season 2013 suffered an injury and I knew I would find supporters here who shared "my" pain when I couldn't show it to him. Thank you.

As the conference season comes to a close tonight (our hopes for advancing beyond regionals are unrealistic) I just want to share the observation that I know many of you have witnessed in your own players.

We believe this season has been a corner turned for 2013. Yes, he made varsity, but that's not what I mean. He was told he was there because they needed a pitcher (they did, and he ended up with a 2.9 ERA) and could maybe become a backup MIF. After missing the first three games with the injury, he very quickly secured the DH position when not pitching. Another player went down to injury, which with some shifting opened up a permanent MIF spot. Coach needed his bat.

He has hit the cages more on his own in the past three months than ever in his life. He has stood in the garage swinging and reviewed the video he makes of himself. He is fouling off more pitches than ever because he doesn't want to let down his team or watch his AVG suffer.

He has seen a player kicked off the team for serious infractions, and others become complacent and more interested in the party this weekend than the game in front of them.

Is he a superstar? No. Is he in a good position mentally to begin his first season of travel ball? Absolutely.

He has one simple goal: play as long as I can, and when I have to stop, try to earn a living somehow involved in the game I love.

Thank you all for the support you provide to all of us who are just beginning to navigate this journey. I know I'm not alone in feeling like I have many, many friends here.
Wow..haven't been on in a while.enjoying the last high school season for 1B and happy he has gotten out of his slump at the plate.
Our #1 pitcher hurt his elbow a week ago and we needed one more win to qualify for states. Coach decided to start 1B on the mound and see how the cards played out. Well, the defense was behind him and he was one great inning after another and then around the 5th inning we all realized he was on his way to the first no-hitter in our high school history. Unbelievable game and we qualified for states! First time in school history as well!
We lost the next game, and moved on to Thurs. where 1B again started on the mound and pitched a 5 hitter giving up one HR and we won 7-1 and contributed at the plate with a 2 run HR. We have one game left in regular season, hoping #1 pitcher will be ok for the start of the state tournament.
The season was a bit rough at the plate, but he stay determined and has really proven to be a great leader, even if he doesn't have the greatest batting average.
Looking forward to states and summer ball, good luck to those playing post season!
Congratulations to your son on the on the No No. I'm sure that was fun.

I just read where Marlins 35 team won the Florida 5A state championship this evening. Congratulations. They beat Pensacola Pace 1-0 in semi-final, and Lakeland 2-0 in the final. Sounds like exciting games-- pitching and defense. I sure hope we get a report within the next day or two.

You may need to turn down the volume for this one.

Son's former high school team Alonso Ravens wins 2nd State Title in 3 years, winning 12-7 over Deltona in the Florida 6A final.

Very exciting game with several lead changes and both teams played with their hearts. The best thing I saw is that it took a total team effort by the Ravens to get the win, as their pitching Ace Jose Fernandez had thrown the semi-final game the night before.

Congratulations to Coach Faedo and the Ravens for another excellent season!
With a loss in our Section semi-finals tonight, HS baseball is over for this family.

This was a phenomenal 4 years at a tremendous school with a great coach. One of the very best experiences of our lives.

Thanks to Coach Hutton and his staff at Archbishop Mitty HS for an absolutely terrific experience! It was 100 times better than we ever expected.
