Jon Menke (HP '09) was named the Liberty Pitcher of the year, First Team All LL and second team All New York Region.
In the summer he was named as one of 4 starting pitchers to the First team All NYCBL (New York Collegiate Baseball League). Jon played this summer for the Geneva Twins of Geneva NY, finishing 4-1 with a 1.85 ERA, just missing the ERA title, which went to Steve Beckham from Mt. Vernon, IL. Steve played for the Niagara Power from Niagara Falls, NY. Steve was POY for the NYCBL and also was on the First Team All NYCBL.
While I root for Casey, top prospect lists have more to do with politics and saving face, than anything to do with ability. Let me give you and example...

White Sox at AA

Dan Remenowsky 2.15 ERA (inflated on one outing, went 14 games in a row without allowing a hit) .138 avg against and a whip around .9

Dan is not on anywhere on the prospects list because he is a non drafted D3 pitcher.

Nestor Molina (the kid they got in the Sergio Santos trade), 4.26 ERAm .312 BAA, 1.51 Whip

Both are righthanders, Molina 6'1" 180, Remenowsky 6'5" 245. Molina is a starter and Rem a reliever, however, Molina is listed as the #4 prospect in the Sox organization.

Looking at Molinas stuff, you'd have to say the Sox farm system is barren if he is their #4, yet they keep pulling these kids seemingly out of nowhere to come up and play on the big stage, and the kids can perform.

Nestor Molina is a bum, he'll never amount to anything. Any my point is that prospect lists mean nothing.

Regards,
Chip
Great cplz I understand what you are saying and where folks are drafted and politics and saving face and so on trust me I watch it with both of our pro teams in town.

That being said Casey earned the right to be on that list even if you don't like the list.

Once again congrats Casey on moving forward in the organization with hard work and determination, keep up the great work!!!!!

I've been following these Prospect lists a long time. The only thing I can make out of it is that righty hs pitchers go high rounds if they throw really hard w/ a really good breaking pitch, or they are lefty and have a MLB fastball. It is what it is.

My son's ex-MLB team has had quite a few kids who made it to the MLB level that were never on the prospect list- ever. They had 5 first round picks in '05 (all pitchers) and they were all on the Prospect list at one time or another and only 1 has had significant MLB experience (and not very successful either). He is on the Cubs now and the other 4 are out of baseball or in other organizations.

I think CPLZ is correct, and I agree Crosby is a Prospect. But, if you got significant $$$ you are advancing quicker than some D3 sign who runs up good numbers. The word "annointed" comes to mind.

As we all know, throwing hard does not translate to MLB success. Crosby needs more command of the zone to be successful. Humber (White Sox)had command (89-90)last year and did well. What has his issue been this year? I'll bet it wasn't VELO.

Watching those lists can drive you crazy.

First time I have seen Tony since high school. He's got some serious arm speed!

Thanks for keeping us in the loop nc42dad and glad they are both doing well and hopefully we will keep seeing them move up the ladder.

I am sure Bill Copp is proud of them as he is all his players. One of the things I have enjoyed about Bill Copp is he seems to help players both in and out of his program, a true love for the game and helping out players move on to the next level.
Arizona Fall League Update

Nate Roberts (Richmond Burton High School) is leading the entire league at the plate. He is hitting 474 with 5 doubles and 2 home runs.

Kyle Kaminska (Naperville Central) has pitched 28 ininnings and has one of the best era in the league at 1.61.He is 3-1 (Hope nc42dad is making the games)

Seth Blair (Rock Falls) has pitched 20 iniings and has an era of 2.25. Seth is 2-1

Tony Zych (St Rita) has pitched 13 innings and has an era of 2.77.

Great job by Illinois players down in the Arizona League. Hope I didn't miss anyone!

Jimmy Ward from Hoffman Estates High School has committed to University of Evansville. Nice article in the Herald and he mentions both his high school and his travel coaches from the Sparks. Congrats Jimmy!

Not sure if this is the right area for this anymore, bu thought I would throw it out there.

2b...nice article and couldn't agree more with Jimmy's assessment of Coach Carroll and the Evansville program. My son (Brett Synek-Oakton CC) signed with Evansville yesterday as well for the very same reasons. Coach Carroll is a real class guy who's positioning the Purple Aces as a serious contender in the MVC for years to come. Led the nation in team fielding% in 2012 which speaks to coach Carroll's attention to detail.

Thanks, 2bagger...most appreciated. Should you have Jimmy's contact #, please PM me so that Boomer and Jimmy can hook up. We're not far from Hoffman Estates and Jimmy would be welcome to grab a ride from Boomer to and from campus on breaks.

Ryan Kennedy Valparaiso (9 appearances, 14 IP, 2-0 0.00)

Hey JKennedy, have you seen the 2013 schedule. Feb 15, 16, 17, Valparasio at Belmont in Nashville. I will be there, and my favorite lefty figures to get a start.

Wouldn't miss it. See you there..
