Ian had his first opportunity on the hill last night and struck out 3 in the inning he pitched.
Ryan Court, (Dundee Crown and Illinois State) was promoted to double a with the diamondbacks organization a few days ago. Congrats to Ryan! Hard work pays off!!!
Ian Krol picked up his first major league win today in relief for the Nationals. Congrats Ian!
Tanner Roark.Called up @ a week ago.Nationols as of yesterday morning 2-0. Not only him but his parents are great people.Worked with his dad for a number of years.Took my guy to watch him play against us his senior year.(they are our ARCH rivals) will never forget the half time score 4-0.That group of kids that was in Tanners class has 1 state championship as soph. 3 place as seniors and a 2 place in football.Best of luck in your future Tanner....Go WILMO
I think Roark might have won 2 baseball state championships while at Wilmington. At least that is what is says on the wall at Tuffy's.
Maybe. If that's the case they took 2 1sts and a third.I know that was one very special group of kids.Along with a couple in the next class up and next class down. When that group of kids were either 10 or 12 they made it to a big tourney out in cali. and won it.They had a very balanced football team as far as pass and run.The year they played for a state title it was snowing enough you could barley see 10 yards.Tanner was the QB and played safety.
Well not exactly a couple kids since they won the first state championship with only 10 players if I remember correct.
Any of the wins had kids that were not in the groups class to win.Thats all I was trying to say without offending someone.was the 10th kid a freshman with the last name Roark? Those parents( AS A GROUP) Were the first to move the bar up to the standards still being chased today.Over here were I live the same sort of thing Should/could have been attempted with one of our classes.Unfortunatly too many personalities involved.Too many its gotta be fair crap. You have to tip your hats to the parents of those kids who saw at an early age what might be possible and kept the group together starting at an early age. I am sure there were tring timesThe kids being together from that early of an age was as important as anything

Yes another Roark is 1 of the 10 players. Did he make the big leagues as well?
Longest I am pretty sure was the punter on the football team. One year onlder.Other than tanner he was probably the 2nd biggest factor on the team.I really thought that he could have a shot of playing for a long time.Never seen a punter as good as him before or since.I am not sure if the younger roark even played past highschool.I had heard about Tanner off and on after high school.Even watched him pitch for Ill @ champain I am pretty sure.I never heard anything about the younger. The Vercelli on the list his dad was on the @ 1969 wilmo team that went undefeated Ill. had no playoffs then.
I coached against that group when they were in high school. They finished with a 1st, 3rd and a 1st.
A couple things still stand out about that group:
1. The Vercelli kids was one of the best high school athletics I have ever seen. He had D1 offers for three different sports (football, wrestling, baseball).
2. They would beat us easily but always did it the right way. Coach Feeney did it the right way and the boys followed.
"Coach Feeney did it the right way and the boys followed." Or was it the other way around?
I think the foundation of the way you do things was in place for those kids well before highschool. Not that coach Feeney didn't build on things.
