I like Kenny Chesney. He’s country, rock and Jimmy Buffett all rolled in one. Chesney will never drone on about losing his woman, his dog and his pickup. His beer, his boat and his beach chair is another issue.

So the team in Red and White that Sean Payton is talking to in this video is my kids HS.  My older son played football when this was recorded but was not on the Varsity team.  He was there when they recorded this but is not anywhere in the video...

Good story about what went on here.  Sean graduated from this HS.  They brought him in to talk to the team for the video as he is friends with Kenny.  We were major underdogs (not usually the case) going into the game they filmed for the video.  Sean was an "honorary" coach for the game and was on the sideline.  We were playing a rival school.  Sean helped our HS head coach make some in game adjustments and we ended up winning the game.  Some of which is captured in the video.  There is also an ESPN documentary about HS football that goes along with this.  We ended up being a major portion of that documentary due to the underdog beating the better team storyline and emotional response that went along with it.  Take a look at the 5:04 mark in the video.  You will see our team rushing onto the field as we defeated them.

Al Green. Charlie Daniels. Lynard Skynard. The Eagles. Hank Williams. Patsy Cline. Yes I know I am a little bit crazy. But I like me just the way I am.

Interesting lineup. I like Al Green hitting leadoff but don’t like The Eagles in the 4 hole.

I hate the Eagles, man.  - J. Lebowski.

If someone posts their kid isn’t playing D1 because of his major (STEM, etc.) that’s not an excuse. It’s a reality. For some kids trying to play D1 with a difficult major is a high risk decision on their future.

Spot on. My 2020 is an excellent student. He is ranked #1 in his class right now and scored in the top 1% on the ACT on his first attempt. He wants to major in biomedical engineering and go to medical school. Based on our research, we understand it will be near impossible to accomplish this playing in any D1 baseball program, including the Ivy League. As such, we are not even looking at D1 for baseball. The conundrum will be if he is faced with the choice of an Ivy League acceptance (no baseball) and a high academic D3 acceptance (baseball).

Juerg this is what we at work sometimes refer to as a "high class problem"   How awesome for your son!  Secretly hoping he will go HA D3 with baseball LOL....

Pure Prairie League!  Yes!

Do the Cowboy Junkies count?

Amie is one of the first songs anyone playing the guitar learns.

My college, though small, had a big quad, with dorms lining three sides of it.  Every Friday at 3:30, if the weather was nice, the quad would be crowded with ultimate frisbee players, guys playing catch with a football and lackadaisical readers. Someone would place their big-ass JBL speakers in the windows of their room, point them out toward the quad, and blast "Amie".  It was our official, start of the weekend song.

That's a very sad story, Shoveit. So sorry for your loss.  But it would make for a good country song.

Well, if you added that to decent country song, you'd have the perfect country song.

Since this is a baseball website, I'd like to mention the word baseball in the post.  Baseball.  Isn't it interesting to see the taste in music from these baseball fans?  You bet it is!  I've had a long journey on this site but to be honest sometimes this best describes me:

Well the truth about a mirror
Is that a damn old mirror
Don't really tell the whole truth
It don't show what's deep inside
Or read between the lines
And it's really no reflection of my youth

As any FYI, I've never been to a Georgia/Florida Line concert.  I've seen George a time or two or three or ... I'm an old guy!

It is also amazing how many Country Singers were good to great high school ball players and some were even college players.  Kenny played football in Knoxville, TN.  Garth Brooks was signed with the San Diego Padres, the New York Mets and the Kansas City Royals. Brooks never made it on the field for a regular game, but he practiced with them during spring training before making the switch to music.  Conway Twitty was incredibly close to playing for the Philadelphia Phillies after playing baseball in high school. He was drafted into the Korean War before he could join the team and never returned to the sport. Kenny Rogers was a professional tennis player.  Colt Ford was a professional golfer along with Kip Moore who played basketball and golf in college.  Charley Pride played baseball.  In 1952, he pitched in the Negro American League before playing on the Boise Yankees farm team. He spent the next several years playing on minor league teams across the country until he released his first single in 1966. Pride still has a love of baseball and is part owner of the Texas Rangers.  Brian Kelley of FGL played baseball at FSU and Belmont.  Sam Hunt played pro football.  Brett Young gave up a pro baseball contract for singing.

Just wanted to bring it all in full circle since it appeared I stole a certain posters thread of bashing parents and players.

You forgot Tug McGraw who is Tim McGraw's father.  Played for the Mets and Phillies.

Who would have thought this thread would turn into a country music debate.

We don't listen to country in Connecticut.  Can we go back to bashing all players and families who either 1) are not drafted out of high school or 2) not Top 10 P5 material?

Afraid I have to take responsibility as the guy from CT that did not get the Toby Keith/bar stool reference.

I am guessing there have been close to 40 names dropped and I only truly recognized Tug McGraw and the Eagles.  The rest I knew some names in passing but would not know their music without being told.

I got into country music a little when I spent a year traveling to Texas in the 90’s. There was a very good rock country station in Austin. I was amused at the first Astros game I attended there was a make noise poll on what country song was to be played at the 7th inning stretch.

By the 2000’s most new rock music stunk. I couldn't listen to classic rock all the time. I got more into rock country. Both kids went to colleges in rock country territory. We like a lot some of the same stuff. Although my daughter likes Brad Paisley chick music.

What I find interesting about Kenny Chesney concerts is the age range is college through my age. As Chesney has aged he’s become rowdier singing about when he was younger. College kids relate with “that’s me.” People my age relate with “that used to be me.”

My Northeast liberal elitists relatives are amused my kids and I listen to country music.
