Heard the same thing about Coppell wanting a one game series and putting it on CG's shoulders.

I personally think that any team opting for a one game series figures the other team is superior and that their only chance to advance is take the one shot.

I don't know that this is the case with Coppell as they are a talented bunch of kids so honestly it is a little surprising. My hope is FM finally wins a coin flip, we play 3 games, and the best team wins.

I know you guys might find it hard to believe but I will even root for Coppell in future rounds if they happen to advance past FM due to the tiger1a factor.
I'll jump in here and give my two cents worth (which isn't even worth two cents) ...

Green was the best pitcher Keller saw all year and we faced some pretty good ones. He can be dominant.

One game series can be extremely risky, even if you have a stud the caliber of Green. Keep in mind, FM has some top flight arms on their side of the diamond as well, especially Millard.

My point, even the best ones can have an off day. I bet Irving is glad their series wasn't a one game deal. I was at the game last evening. Beaven was not sharp and Southlake hit him like it was Monday afternoon BP. Plus, Reid was spot on and virtually unhittable.

My preference would be for all playoffs to be 2 of 3, period - no options. Either way, should be a great one between Coppell and FM. Two great teams with exceptional talent on both sides.
I agree with Frawdawg "One game series can be extremely risky". I remember one play-off where a kid who had shutdown great teams (I mean shutouts no low scores) like Grapevine and SouthLake all year to win the district, had a terrible first game of a series. Just plain had a bad day. The next year he was an all Big 12 pitcher (or maybe it was Big 8 - that's how old I am.) As far as Coppell/Marcus last year, I saw game 3 so it was a 3 game series. Coppell won game 1 in a close game. Marcus clobber Coppell in game 2 and in game 3, Coppell played well but Marcus more or less crumbled.
I am a fan of the 3 game series. In a one game series, one bad inning, and you are done...just ask Duncanville. I can not fault Coach Rombach for wanting a 1 game playoff. Rogers was 7-0 in district play while everyone else was 3-4 in district play and 2 of those wins were against Sam Houston. IMO, Duncanville had no chance in a best of 3 and Coach Rombach had to flip for the one game.

When I coached at FW Nolan, the TAPPS playoff format called for 1 game playoffs up to the state tournament (and it still does). I always had 3 legit starters plus 2-4 other guys that could get it done. I was always so worried that "lightning would strike" and we would get knocked out in those situations. Many of the big school coaches like myself lobbied TAPPS to give us the option for the 3 game series, but to no avail. Luckily in the 5 years I was there that never happened and we were able to make it to the State Tournament all 5 years.

I do not fault any coach that flips for 1 game because he believes it is what is best for his team. The school district he works for pays him to make those decisions for the kids in that school district or at that school. After all, that is his job, to do what is best for the kids that he coaches.

You are correct, sir!! The 1 game series should be done away with, at least for 5A/4A. Maybe in 3A/2A they need it for travel costs or whatever, but in 5A/4A there is enough money to have 3 games always. How can one game determine the best team? Even 3 is a short-change. How many times have you seen the bloopers fall or the liners all be caught? or a close call by the umpire change a big inning? The same goes for the State tournament in Austin. It's absurd for teams to fight up the play-offs through the 3 game series route and then find themselves in Austin getting a bad draw against the state's best pitcher.

I think it would be great if the state tournament was a 4 team double elimination tournament like the NCAA regionals. That will never happen though having 5 classifications playing at a central site.
