Anthony Rizzo is one of my favorite players, we like to support our home boys. His story is very inspirational.

However Rizzo is 5 years older and has gone through a life experience that others will never, that alone makes him more mature.

As far as who will be the better player, only time will tell.

As far as how he is treated, don't blame the manager, he only follows what GMs and owners tell him. They are very specific on the what and what nots to do.

Biggerpapi. As far as taking Harper over any Cubs players I beg to differ. I would take Anthony Rizzo over Harper any day of the week. Consider this. Anthony is really not that much older then Bryce and you would never see him pull the stunts he does. And it is my humble opinion that Rizzo is the better talent. After all he has been through Anthony can teach Bryce a thing or two. Personally i think having Dave Johnson as his manager is the single most disservice to Harper. He did Gooden and Strawberry et al. no favors as far as growing up.

Yeah, I shouldn't have painted with such a broad brush. Reed Johnson was also one of my favorites, hope he has a post-season chance with Atlanta.

Just thought it was petty to take all of their frustrations out on a kid who was kicking their butts.

I wouldn't doubt that Johnson does what Harper tells him to do.

PUHD,
That's not what I said. Most managers don't get full reign on what they can and can't do, most everything come down from the GM and owners.

I doubt very much that Johnson follows Harper's orders.

What really is amazing to me is all of the talent just coming up so young, Harper, Rizzo, Stanton, Trout, Profar, watch for Oscar Taveras STL to come up next year.

actually Anthony Rizzo is less then 3 years older then Bryce Harper and younger then Eric Hosmer by a few months. Big difference then 5 years. but I think we are beating a dead horse here. These players will be who they are. TPM you are right , a lot of unbelievable young talent coming up.A ton from here in south florida. Amazingly the Marlins cant seem to find it!!
You are right, I thought he was born in 87.

The Marlins just don't seem to get it right, too bad, lots if good stuff going on down here. They need to give us south floridians better than what they did.

I forgot about Hosmer and Moustakas. Now there is another team that just doesn't seem to get it right either!

TPM, it is hard to believe the catcher at AT&T is just finishing his second full season.
Buster Posey is AWESOME!
What a rare talent in the way he plays the game and the manner in which he conducts himself, while being a fierce competitor... who sometimes does not sprint to 1st on a pop up, fly out or ground out.

Just watched Jason Hayward slam his helmet to the ground after being called out at first.....against the Nats.....still in the game.......

dw8, see pg 16,17 of this thread... some of our resident contributing umpires have clarified for us that if the helmet is thrown in protest of the call, it is auto ejection. If the player throws the helmet because he is mad at himself, not an ejection. Makes sense to me. Umpires must interpret the reaction. Did you see the play?

Sure did....he was PO'ed at the call as he was safe...I don't think the 1st base ump saw him throw it but did see it on the ground and Jason upset. Freddy had to come out and cover for him. The announcers, for what they are worth, said the HPU saw it and made some kind of signal about it. They also said he would be fined and commented on Harper being ejected for the same thing but he did it closer to the base then Hayward.

Oh. Well then, in the words of the famous SNL character who's name escapes me at the moment... "never mind". Big Grin

Speaking of Harper, just hit his 19th HR tonight--five from Tony Conigliaro's teenage record now.

and it was opposite field on a change up against Medlen who has 11 or 12 Ks tonight and has been one of the hottest pitchers as of late. I think it was his first HR to a lefty this year....or at least in a long while.....

Just to put things into perspective.... I was so stoked earilier today as I got to talk with my 19 year old son. He was telling me about his two games yesterday down in Chipola FL with his Juco team (not Chipola College). He got his first fall HR in what expects to be a good sophmore year.....now I am watching another 19 year old hitting a HR for the Nats......
Doesn't take anything way from my son's (as I am as proud as can be!) but just puts it in perspective a bit for me.

You may be right. Watching game one of the ALCS and Cano just grounded out in a run-scoring situation. Granted, he turned away from the umpire but he CLEARLY slammed his helmet into the ground in reaction to the umpire's call.

There's no way this "automatic ejection" is carried out routinely.
