Downers Grove North is playing a tough preseason schedule, starting with Lockport, WWS, and Benet. Here are the ups and downs so far...
Saturday: At Lockport 10 - DGN 0
Mercy me! First DGN game of the year. A little rough. 2 Lockport pitchers combine for a 1 hitter.
------------------------------------------------
Monday: DGN 2 - At Wheaton Warrenville South 1
DGN LHP Mitch LaBuda throws a great game. Pitch count a little high (85 I think?), but scattered a few hits with some good defense behind him.
------------------------------------------------
Tuesday: DGN 3 - At Benet 1
Mark Belcastro (4 innings) and Dex McCauley (3 innings) both pitch very well. DGN SS Steve Binder goes 3 for 3 with a double.

AHS....how are you guys doing overall? Who is looking good in the Quad Cities?
On Monday I saw a well played game between rivals Glenbrook South and Loyola. Loyola's Brendan Daker pitched really well into the fifth with 10 strikeouts. In the fifth however Mike Kerr hit a homerun to give GBS the lead and the win. The final was 6-3 GBS. Both teams looked good for the early year on defense, I think only 1 or 2 errors total. As I said Daker was solid on the mound for the Rablers, but seemed to run out of gas in the fifth. Matt Williamson went deep for the Rablers. Senior Blake Buzard was the winning pitcher for GBS.

Leyden defeated Maine West yesterday...although Im not sure of the score, my brother couldn't remember.
Conant 11- Maine South 8
who threw for conant??
OPRF 10 Barrington 4
JV was worse.
OPRF Lefty pitcher (heard he was a soph.) looked pretty good. I liked OPRF's lineup, not a lot of power but it seemed like they can hit up and down the lineup.

Red Devils came back from 5-2 and 6-5 deficits to beat WWS. Both sides hit the ball well. Kevin Quirke pitched very well and got Hinsdale out of a bases-loaded 1-out jam in the fifth that kept the game in reach.

Batavia fell to Montini 6-4 today. 3 homeruns put Montini over the top, including two by starting pitcher Pete Capetta. As for Batavia, Alex Beckman went 3-4 with a couple of rbi's. Batavia heads out to sandwhich thursday night.
I agree with the Oak Park comments but I think the power will emerge as the season goes on. But the Huskies can rake and I think the pitching staff is going to make quite a name for itself before the season is over - they are very underrated by the press and the general public right now. The new unis don't look right yet - that is going to take some getting used to.

Suburban fan, were you there today?
DH at Downers Grove North vs. Glenbard East today. It was much colder than it was supposed to be...
Game #1: Glenbard East 6 - DGN 1
Exceptionally well pitched complete game (7 innings...sorry no pitch count) by hard-throwing righty for GE (but I hope it's not the same young man with the high pitch count that I heard about vs. Benet).
Game #2: DGN 11 - GE 4
GE went up 4-0 over the first three innings, but DGN scored 9 runs in the 4th and went on to win.

No sir - I took in the Hinsdale C.-Wheaton South game today because I thought I would get to see Sandburg-LT also. I did see the OP-Schaumburg game the other day and I wwould have gone to the Barrington game today if I had bothered to read the paper this morning.

Does anybody know if LT played (and lost) to Marist yesterday? The Sun-Times and Daily Southtown have the score as 7-2 but nothing in the Trib.
Yes, LT played and lost to Marist on Wednesday 7-2. 3-1 on the year so far for LT. Today vs Naperville Central 11 am. Glenbard West for conference opener this weekend.

That must have been interesting. Who were the pitchers?
How did they score their runs?

Fillipitch started for LT. Threw real well, kind of ran out of gas in the 7th. Couple of relievers came in- 1 walk, 3 HBP, couple hits and Weston came in from CF. NCHS secondbase hit the first pitch in to RF to score the two winning runs.
Kaminska threw 6 for NCHS, pulled at 80 pitches.
His replacement gave up 4 runs in the top of 7th inning to make it look out of reach but...it ain't over till its over. 2 wins for Central in their last at bats in 2 days.
