Maybe I'm bias, but I think the genius Tony La Russa got out coached last night and is throwing his coaching staff under the bus. Maybe he should start wearing those glasses when he heads to the mound. Game 6 in the WS at critical points in the game and he gets "surprised" by who shows up on the mound? Wow. I was there last night...it was loud, but not that loud. And, if it's not an unusual problem for them, how do you get surprised by it in game 6 of the WS? And attempting to steal which simply takes the bat out of AP's hands. Not a good night for La Russa.

Do you mean Game 5?
Tx,
I am sorry, and maybe it is just me, but there is nothing in the article to support your assertions of LaRussa throwing anyone under the bus. It is factual...they didn't communicate.
Why not talk about Napoli's great game?
Why not talk about the Rangers getting the job done with Cardinals all over the bases?
Why not talk about the job Rangers pitching has done with Pujols since Saturday.

The Rangers are the story right now. They don't get better by trashing Pujols and LaRussa.
Ron Washington, to me, is the understated story.
All those years with the A's earning respect from his players and those in baseball alike for his skills as a teacher of the game and his loyalty.
Beane passes him over and look at the job he is doing. Is he the "best" in game coach with the NL rules? Probably not. He gets his team to the WS two straight years and Ryan and Daniel get plenty of press but not Wash. He is darn good...and fun!
But it is clear his players really respect him.
The Holland interview with him trying to do Wash on the mound in the 9th was hysterical.
To me, the legitimate and unanswered question was the steal attempt by Craig with Pujols hitting. I'm not buying the McCarver/Buck that it was called by Pujols. Pujols knows he has to swing at that ball up out of the zone if he called that hit/run.
To me, that was the situation where the game/momentum was on the line...and Napoli again did his job.

As I said, it sure isn't, to me, what you are trying to make out of it.
To my reading, your posts come off as if LaRussa/the Cards lost that game and not that the Rangers won it.
I think the Rangers won it.
They executed...after the 1st couple of innings.
The Cards didn't. Some of what the Cards didn't do was the result of good pitching, some great defense as others noted last night, and some Napoli.
Those are the story.
If you want to convey LaRussa "lost" that game, so be it. He is a smart guy. I am sure that is what he wants his team to think.

Fine with me. LaRussa cost his team that game. LaRussa lost it for the Cards, the Rangers didn't win it and now LaRussa is throwing everyone under the bus.
If that is the message of game 5 for you, that is fine.
I don't share it, as I said.
The article you linked said he called for both pitchers and the BP coach only heard the first, not that they confused the names. The later confusion was Motte and Lynn.

I wonder how a batter can call a hit and run to a baserunner?

One very quick reference I read came from a report of an Allan Craig interview.
He said the sign came from Oquendo, the 3B coach. Not sure if it was verified, or a guess from there, but the reporter said Pujols gave the sign to Oquendo and he gave it to Craig.
I agree that LaRussa was clueless last night (overuse of bunts, misuse of bullpen, caught stealing in 9th). And I agree that he threw his bullpen coach under the bus. I do believe that LaRussa (or the bullpen coach) possibly cost his team the game last night because having Scrabble face Napoli never should have happened. Getting a right on right matchup there could have made a big difference.

And for the question "was McCarver going nuts?" Of course not...he's so clueless he probably didn't notice, but him and Joe Buck certainly aren't going to question the sage TLR.
So if the game had turned out differently, would we all be glorifying LaRussa and vilifying the Rangers' defense with several more errors (why is Moreland playing the field????)

I think it's been an awesome series between two awesome teams and even the littlest mistake can have a tremendous effect on the game.

Let's go Cardinals in Game 6 then we'll shoot for extra innings in Game 7!!!!
