Jacksonville, IL - The Dons finished the Jacksonville trip 2-1 with a win over Buffalo Grove on Sunday. Freshman Adnan Sator (CG, Win, 4 Ks, 1 BB, 2 ER) earned his 2nd victory of the season (2-0) to help the Dons improve to 4-2.

Buffalo Grove and Notre Dame exchanged runs in the 1st and 2nd inning. ND's first run came on an RBI single by Danny Hyde (1-3, RBI, SB) driving in senior catcher Matt Walsh. The Dons added a run in the 2nd inning when sophomore Tommy Simon (1-2, BB, RBI) hit a sharp ground ball through the left side of the infield with two outs.

The score was knotted at 2-2 from the bottom of the 2nd on until the Dons pulled out the victory in hustle fashion in the bottom of the 7th. The Bison had chances to score, but the Notre Dame defense came up with a number of great plays to keep the scored tied. The defining play was when catcher Matt Walsh picked off the Bison lead off hitter from 3B with two outs in the 7th.

Bison senior pitcher Robert Hawkins matched Sator pitch for pitch up until the final frame.

Dion Ursino (0-0, 2 BBs, HBP, 2 SB, 2 Rs) led off the bottom half of the 7th by being hit by a pitch. Sean Pavel bunted Ursino over to 2B. After a Bison pitching change, Ursino stole 3B on the first pitch. With a runner on 3B and 1 out, the Bison issued walks to Tommy Simon and Matt Walsh. Senior SS Ryan Czachor had the game winning, walk off single with a slow ground ball to the right side of the infield.http://www.hometeamsonline.com...score&gameID=1281880BOX SCORE

You know SoS, elephants are certainly remarkable. They are quite different from most other animals. For example: A horse you can lead to water, but you cannot make it drink. An elephant, on the other hand, can be lead to the throne and when finally comfortable will leave quite a load.

And the great thing about elephants? Once they remember the routine they never forget. And a bull elephant never forgets to put the seat down for the cow elephants. Oh no, he never forgets!

It is true, papi and I are good long time friends, willing to put up with each other's foibles and shortcomings. And it's a good thing we have a solid friendship because I've been having to take a lot of heat in our high school district ever since papi's very vocal, very public, and very descriptive outburst.

If you've ever met papi you know just by looking at him that he is a man who can most assuredly pull some strings or, in this case, push someone's p00per sc00per. My friends, neighbors, and fellow softball parents are blaming me for this. They all tell me that they don't want to see my papi friend until he somehow manages to get the elephants back.

I know you mean well papi, but when you tried to make it up to them by showing up at my daughter's last home game in this get up...

They weren't buying it papi. You're just going to have to work harder on this particular foible.

Wink

Notre Dame shocks Evanston 6-5

The Dons (6-2) pulled one out in thrilling fashion on a frigid afternoon in Evanston.

After spotting the Wildkits 5 runs in the 3rd inning, Notre Dame battled back to score two runs in the 4th, 5th, and 6th innings to come away with the victory.

Everyone contributed in a true team win. The decisive blows came in the top of the 6th when Sean Pavel laced a 3-2 fastball to right center to score sophomore Tommy Simon, who led off the inning with a walk and then stole 2nd and 3rd. Nick Fiorito then pinch ran for Pavel, and was advanced on an infield single by pinch hitter Robbie Getty. After a strikeout, Ryan Czachor grounded out to the Evanston shortstop but beat out the double play attempt at 1B. Fiorito, who was running hard the whole play, scored from 2B on the fielders choice to score the go-ahead run.

Notre Dame only managed 5 hits on the afternoon with 2 coming from CF Danny Hyde. Nick Pieruccini added a hit, a walk, and 2 runs.

Junior Zach Koziol earned his 1st varsity win, and Danny Nagode earned the save by throwing a perfect 6th before the game was called due to darkness.

The Dons are back in action on Saturday when they will travel to Palatine to play the Fremd Vikings.

"Yeah, but can I still wear the tutu?"

Of course...that tutu is so youyou! And besides, all the fans at the softball game will probably like you better. I think that trunk scared them!

Of course I think my choice for game time duds is wearing thin on the crowd too...

Thin indeed! I've had to ask the seamstress too many times "can't you let it out just a wee bit more?" Here's a picture of me pulling my own chow wagon to the last double-header.

By the way...the guy in the photo has quite an interesting story.
