Glenbrook North - 7
Taft - 1

WP Brad Altbach - 15 Ks
Brad Altbach 2run HR
Greg Rosenthal 2 run HR

The final score was not indicative of the entire game. It was 2-1 going into the bottom of the 6th inning and the wheels kind of fell off of the Taft defense. They misplayed 2 potential double play balls and GBN took advantage of them. Up to that time they had played errorless ball and it was really a pitcher's duel. Altbach was outstanding with the 15 Ks and the HR to help his cause. Contrary to what some people were indicating on this forum, Taft is a good team. They just happened to put all of their errors together in one inning and got burned by them.
GBN will move on to play the winner of the Niles North vs. Niles West game.
sulltiger,

Yes, they definitely did. We (parents) kind of thought that they might want to save Altbach for the second round, but it does no good to save him if you don't win the first game, so it looks like a good decision by the coaches to have used him. I think that they had wished that they could have opened up the game a little earlier so he could be available for a few innings in case they need him on the Saturday game but that didn't work out. I think that everyone at the game was suprized at how good Taft was and thank goodness for GBN that Taft cracked a little in the 6th inning.
