I must say I am almost 90% sure I watched Slater play outfield for the first time (or towards the beginning). 12 year old Super Series in Gulfport Mississippi. Picked a ball up off the wall in center and threw it to third base on a line, not touching the ground... I think I knew right then. Oh, and he won the speed competition for that tournament and the AAU.
The major D1 programs get the pick of the litter. No doubt. And there will be a lot of scholarships at the major D1's committed this fall. However, these programs may lose a player or two (sometimes as many as three or four) to the draft. Slight possibility of grades taking out a player. Etc. And this can make scholarships available for other players.

But you have to remember, the verbals going on now and the NLI's that will be signed soon are based on performance during the past year. Particularly this past summer.
