Overall..I thought it was a fun couple of hours! Good singing. Actually LOVED Katherine and Meatloaf!!! Who would have EVER thought those two would sound good together! Felt bad for Elliott tho....thought Mary Blige kind of HOGGED the stage from him! He was barely able to get a word in to sing with her!
Well, he is one hell of a performer. It's hard not to like him. Now the big question... Will anyone buy his records.

Clay Akins was spectacular. Was Ruebin on the show tonight? I still think Chris was the true star of the group, but Taylor was just so likeable.

Geez, Taylor is 29 years old and been singing in bars for years (if I heard right). Why didn't anyone discover him before now if he's that good?
BEEN

Someday I will sit with you and explain what they look for in an American Idol--it ain't me--it ain't you-- it is a performer who has a "package" and gives them enjoyment--last year we had Carrie and Bo, this year we have Taylor and Kat--- all four are winners

I know this , that if he shows up in my town and I can get there I will pay to see the man perform--he has to be a gas with his band, his harmonica and his energy--The Young Rascals were like that when the took over Arthurs in NYC and the Hamptons on LI-- pure party time
Well....AARP...very funny.....and Shep....you better get up of the floor before someone steps on you....by mistake of course... Wink

....in the past 2 weeks I've bought CD's from Jack Johnson, Neil Young, Willie Nelson, Van Morrison, Rosanne Cash and Kris Kristofferson....and yes, Beenthere....I'll purchase Taylor Hicks recordings too.....guess there is a pattern to what I like....we also get a lot of Blues CD's.....but don't think we are alone in liking this genre....if Taylor stays true to his style....he'll do well. I'll also buy a ticket to see him in concert.......

....someone wrote about Taylor recently that his popularity was due to his not being a "cookie cutter" singer like so many today......Spears/Simpson as an example......the article said that maybe America is sending a message to the recording industry......specifically....we want to be entertained....and make it different....unique.....

It was a fun show last night....entertaining.....and I guess this thread is now down........'till next year....back to baseball....

NO..Except many of the members of AARP.

What a joke!

I think today's music and entertainment has passed old Beenthere by. The opinions of untold millions lend much more credence to Taylor's abilities than the irrational rantings of some guy from the south side.

I can just picture Beenthere sitting at the old computer hunting and pecking his next post while some soothing Lawrence Welk plays in the background.... Big Grin

The man can't sing and can't dance but the AARP'ers loved him as they sat around their campers watching tv; getting the pill schedule set for the next day; and, trying to figure out how to speedial their cells.

What can I say.

Kat should have won the competition. She needed someone to dress her; chose songs that people recognized; and, GET THE HECK UP OFF OF THE FLOOR!!!!!!

....she probably should have developed a personality too....and learned how to be entertaining...and consistent in her delivery....but other than that....I agree with you Been.....as far as Katherine goes....

Now Taylor....that's a whole other story.....peace Beenthere.....hopefully both will do well....

Now on to summer ball!
I downloaded the MeatLoaf-McPhee rendition of "It's All Coming Back".....man, that just blows me away. What a powerful vocal performance by BOTH of them. It gives me the chills. FAR better than anything Taylor was able to put together, IMO.

But I'm sure her career will blossom accordingly despite the final results...
MN-mom....read an article re: that Meatloaf/McPhee performance. If you watched that night you could see that he was trembling very badly. Apparently he has a tremendous fear of performing live and, according to the article, almost didn't go on that night because he was so sick with panic. Interestingly, Katherine McPhee noted that she was not nervous at all. Personally, if they were going to do a song together I would have preferred "Paradise by the Dashboard Light" (always love those "baseball" songs! Big Grin)
Think I've been too harsh with Katherine.....yes, she definitely did carry that duo with Meatloaf...and I liked it a lot....kept thinking while watching...the beauty and the beast.....again, I hope she does well.....

Luvbb..... never heard "Paradise by the Dashboard Light".....but going to go and find it!

Go Katherine!......and Taylor too.......
Katherine gossip: Cruise and Holmes, as well as Spielberg, interested in McPhee....

from socialite.com

" A source close to the couple says, "Tom and Katie have become Katharine's biggest fans. They think she's destined to become a singing legend."

And Cruise's War of the Worlds director Steven Spielberg is also a big McPhee fan--he has set up a meeting with the Idol star to discuss a possible future in films. "
I did not know that about Meatloaf's stage fright! And in spite of being a little disappointed listening to their duet, I am still a Meatloaf fan.

Wow, reading this thread just brought back memories, sitting on the floor in the living room of a house I shared with 5 or 6 other girls in college, listening to a Meatloaf album (haha, album, not CD). That was a few years ago ... the carpet was olive green, and pretty threadbare!

What an entertaining thread this has been! Meatloaf was a great singer and was teamed with a great writer Jim Steinham. They sort of formed a team like Elton John and Bernie Taupin.
I have seen him in a few movies and in one he plays a psycho truck driver.

Since we are on the subject, I see luvbb's favorite Meatloaf tune is Paradise....

Mine is "Two out of Three Ain't Bad" Anybody else have a favorite Meatloaf tune?
