LadyNmom...you are gonna LOVE tonight's show....Taylor is the ultimate performer!

Started off with Springsteen's "Dancing in the Dark", followed by Cocker's "You are so Beautiful"....and topped it all off with Otis Redding's "Try a Little Tenderness". WOW! I thought "You are so Beautiful" would be my favorite, but I think I enjoyed "Try a Little Tenderness" even more! ALL three were GREAT!

Have to admit...I did like Katherine "Pod Person" McPhee's version of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" too. Especially the acapella (sp?) beginning. She's better when she stays more simple without all the flourishes she likes to put in. Simon was right on in this selection for her IMO.
Taylor had a very good night. Katherine was great in the middlle but just okay on the other two. Elliott was boring.

1) Taylor
2) Katherine
3) Elliott

While Elliott was on stage I couldn't help but think what a pity it was that he survived last week and kept us from watching Chris perform three times.

If you like the Yamen guy you'd better start voting...... call
OK I've given up on judging music! However... All three songs that Taylor sang were average at best... actually way below average. I think there are a million people singing in Bars who could have done better.

For some reason he has been able to hypnotize people (must be the gray hair and smile), but if you compared those songs he sang to the originals, they were very weak!!! He can't hit any high notes at all... Like in the Crocker song.

I wish they would play the original right after or before the contestants sang the songs. I just don't get it at all, but I actually think he (Taylor) is going to win. The Nashville winner and losers were all better than all three of these Idol finalists! IMO

Headlines

Taylor - Gray haired Average Singer Becomes American Idol.

Elliott - Gomer Pyle Becomes American Idol.

Katherine - Female Who Sings Songs Laying On The Floor Becomes American Idol.

Chris - Becomes Multi Millionaire Rock Star!

No Kelly Clarkson's in this bunch! Not even a Clay Ache-ins! Three Studdards!

I'm sick of the female judge too! Geez, even Simon has turned into a nice guy! I think they're all trying to save the show from becoming a farce! Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin

I wish no one bothers to vote this week!

I recommend the Nashville Contest next year.

OK, that's my weekly Idol report, over and out!

I do not think the point is to "copy" the original song...I think it is better if they put their own personality stamp on it. But, if you want to compare songs to their originators....I wouldn't want to be Katherine who then needs to be compared to Judy Garland this week, and in past weeks she's tackled Aretha Franklin, Barbra Streisand, Ella Fitzgerald, Whitney Houston, Christina Aquilera and Faith Hill. I do not think she'd want the originals played after her versions because she'd most definetly come up short. Yes, she's a beautiful girl....yes she's got a trained voice....but she tackles songs that are way beyond her years and talent-level for the most part she's overly ambitious in her song choices (IMO).

"You Are So Beautiful" is a great song. I do understand that they are supposed to put their own stamp on the songs. I just thought Taylor put a 1 cent stamp on that song. The modulation (is that the right word?) highs and lows in the original were replaced by real bland stuff. Compare the verse "You are so beautiful to meeee... Can't you seeee-eeee-eeee to what we heard come out of Taylor. He just can't do it!!!! That wasn't the spot to put your own stamp on a song... That was the spot to show off your singing ability.

HaHaHa... I have no idea what I'm talking about here. Kind of like the millions of voters! But it sure is fun. 14
Jackson was quoted last week as saying that he can guarantee that the next American Idol will be a male. He is brutal toward Katherine. Is it fair that whenever she picks a song, he comments that she isn't ...(Insert any Female singers name that did the song she just performed)...? She even commented that she can't pick any contempory music since Randy keeps saying she isn't ...( )...! Was Taylor "The Boss?" NOPE! HE WASN'T EVEN JOE COCKER! BTW, Simon had it right that he brutalized the ending on one of his songs. Elliot? I have no clue what he sung since I've only heard the Journey song. WAS HE STEVE PERRY? Time for me to get off of my soapbox!

Some other observations - Paula gets up everytime and dances for Taylor. She even gets the crowd going. Randy can't stand Katherine. Simon is getting gentler and kinder.

It sure would have been interesting to see Chris sing in that 3 part format.

Clive Davis has a remarkable history of "making an artist" and he would have put Chris over the top IMO.

The judges surpised me, I guess they have been listening for the last couple of months as their selections were right on the money.

The artist selections only went to show that just because YOU think you sound good singing a song in the shower doesn't mean it really is good.

I think the Springsteen song and dance and a nice job on the Cocker song will put Taylor in, and then between the guys who have a thing for Katherine, the LALA vote, and the girls who are staying true to their gender votes, she will also return.

Maybe for the second week straight the most talented singer will be asked to leave.

We are now into the time of weird voting rituals.

My Mom's nurse is voting for Elliot because he is deaf in one ear and has oversome so many obstacles in his life.

Taylor is supposedly getting the over 30 vote

My feelings after last nite--

01 --KAT
02-- Soul Patrol
03-- Elloit

Best comeback last nite was from Kat when Randy said it was a terrbole song choice and she looked him right in the eye and "It wasn't my choice!"--then Randy spent the rest of the nite trying to make up to Clive Davis.

At this point it is not a talent contest but more of a popularity event and all are winners from here on in\

RZ

And who is to say that Chris does not have an offer from Clive Davis on the table already Chris has a voice that will be dynamite in the studio but they need to get him the right material and Clive is a genius at finding the right song for the right talent to record in the studio

Oh Puhleeze.....Paula is up dancing for EVERYBODY. Last night Taylor pulled her up on stage, but if you look during every upbeat tempo performance, she's on her feet. Of course, that is when she's not sitting on Simon's lap! Roll Eyes

So true TR

Last week when Chris showed surprise when he was eliminated many thought was not a good look for an idol contestant. I thought it showed a "true" healthy competitve side that none of the others have shown all season. He just seemed like a pretty cool kid that has opinions, a lot of interests off the stage, and I'll even bet that he has some athletic game in him also.

For you conspiracy buffs.....

A local morning radio show DJ here in Dallas that is syndicated nationwide has said that he has been getting e-mails from an anonymous person that claims to know the phone call percentages before they are announced on Wednesdays. Says the guy has been correct nine weeks in a row and must have some kind of inside info.

The guy e-mailed him this morning and said the percentages of initial voting for last night were this:

Taylor - 39%
Katherine - 32%
Elliott - 29%

Coach....Luvbb is correct....Paula dances all the time.....unless it's a slow ballard being sung. Of all three artists.....thought Taylor was consistently good....all three songs. I think someone forgot to tell Elliott and Kat that this was the second to last show....they just didn't step up.

DBat....do you think they are getting their percentages from Dialidol.com? They have consistently picked correctly...today they have them placed: 1. Taylor 2.Katherine 3. Elliott.....and based on their past hx. of getting it right.....Elliott is probably going home.

Too bad.....it should be Katherine.

Also....gotta add.....PG, et al.....Rockers do not become American Idols....so you can stop being irritated (and you all are! Smile) with the contestants who have enough sense to know this.....Chris should have shown more versatility.......he was too one demensional....and that demension was rock....a place where the majority of Americans do not visit/listen! Not saying he isn't talented....he is....and I'm sure he will do well....as TR says.....he may well have an offer now to record.

LadyNmom,

It's just all the stored up things I'd like to say about baseball, surfacing in a topic that allows ripping people apart.

Here is what I don't like about American Idol:
Randy
Secrist
Paula
Simon (lately)
The commercials
Taylor
Katherine
Elliott
The Voters
The Viewers
Secrist
Randy
Paula
Taylor
Katherine
Elliott
And many other things

Of course, I do watch it every week. 14
PG..I'm sure you didn't intend to put "voters" or "viewers" on your list of dislikes...because that would mean you dislike several of your fellow posters here...including yourself.....and I want to assure you.....we watch and vote, but we are likeable...even you.....and remember..when you watch Idol....applaud loudly for Taylor... applaude clap greenjump

RZ...I like those odds....
