Was this site not established to help/aid families with questions about both high school and college baseball. I don't see what the big deal is with someone asking a simple question. If for some reason you don't wish to respond that is fine but why put someone down if they ask for help because next time it could be you asking for the assistance.

Please quit playing the victim card here. None of these other posters are creating these innane topics that can be answered with a 20 second search. I don't know what your motives are but these type of topics are an afront to the logical operations of the board.

There is no clique of insider-oldtimers here. A single, mother of four, first time poster who asked the same question would have gotten different treatment. You've been a member (not victim) here since 2006 and your question has been answered dozens and dozens of times before. You created a similar topic a few weeks back where you wanted to know if your kid was a prospect if he was invited to junior day. What in the he-ll do you think Eric? Are they inviting spelling bee and chess champions to junior days or are they inviting baseball players?

Same here. Why do you think a coach is coming to watch your kid play? Why do you need to start an innane, convoluted topic on the subject. Why not wait until the coach visits and post in our high school thread on what he said or didn't say. Why not read the rule book yourself?

Sorry, we are the victims here. Only a few members here abuse the board like this and frankly you are the leader of the club. No idea what your motivations are but kindly find this information on your own or wait and see what happens.

I'm fairly new here too and have always felt like I received polite and helpful responses. I do try to do my homework, and in one case even provided the appropriate link to a parent trying to determine the eligibility of a high school course with the Eligibility Center. Once I replied no one else did - the answer was there and we were done.

This is a great resource for those of us who do have first-timer questions and by and large I find the participants of all tenures to be very knowledgeable. I also feel comfortable that if/when the day comes that I have exciting news to share about my son it will be received in the spirit in which it is intended. As will my posts about our disappointments. The key is I will be honest about both.

Fabulous post. Best one I have seen in this thread
Not speaking for anyone else, but I have no idea of this posters "history". I only saw the original question and all that followed. I come to this site and read everyday, but not every post/thread. I don't know all the ins and outs of all the posters, as I'm sure many others don't either. Regardless of what else might go on, I will come here everyday and read as I always do. I don't feel like I lose out because I don't jump in and ask questions more often. Alot of the questions and topics are relavent to me as a parent of a HS player, whether or not I actually asked the question myself.
I wanted to add that I say this with all due respect to the posters who do contribute alot and often. They are the ones who help keep the board going day in and day out.

When I saw the topic, I too was interested. I am not bragging, but I do know that a college coach has contacted our high school coach about coming to watch my son at practice. My friends asked, "are they allowed to talk to him at practice?" I answered, " I don't know!" Lo and behold...someone asked that very same question on here. I thought to myself "Great! These seem to be knowledgeable people who can help answer this question. Now I won't have to go searching through the NCAA rules to find out! Thank God because I find some of the rules a little confusing!" However...what I got was alot of complaining about Eric. I don't know hime and I don't know his history. Quite frankly, I don't care. Let him brag about his son in a subliminal way. Who cares! I am a newbie and was looking for a simple answer. I'm still not sure if the question was ever answered. So, I'll ask it again...Can a college coach speak to a player at practice? My son is a junior and I really am just curious.
Thank You!

Say what? You asked this very question on March 1st and 3FG gave you and Eric the exact answer. Why are you asking the same question now? Unbelievable. Please review the thread YOU started on March 1st Roll Eyes

ClevelandDad...did you read my original question (March 1st one you are referring to) I asked if they can come to a practice...I did not ask if they could "talk" to the player. I didn't think about it when I first asked. I also didn't think to ask that first time if the rules are different for my son, who is a junior, verses if he were a senior. I am SOOOOOO sorry for my ignorance. I can't believe how this whole thread is going. Wow...this is certainly not the way to welcome a newbie. Is this the way it is on here....ask a "stupid" question in the eyes of the long time users and you get harassed. Wow!
I have read every single one of these posts from the beginning to the end.

As a long time contributor, fan, and supporter of this site and many, many of the Posters on here I have to say that I am quite disappointed at the assault that has been launched upon some of these Posters on here asking relatively simple questions. All I could think about while reading the blasts from some of the "old timers" was if I was a newbie and this had been me I would've ran from this place as fast as I could. Not everyone always knows where to go look for answers whether they have been on here 1yr or 10yrs. It can be at times still overwhelming reading the NCAA rules on certain topics and rules. What does it matter if a Poster appears lazy and simply ask a question? What if they ask and could care less how long it takes for it to be answered? Why does any Poster EVER have to explain themselves as to why they are asking a question? They shouldn't. If one doesn't like the Post and/or question, simply don't reply and/or stay away. No need for cyber bullying which to all accounts this is how this thread has become.

Shame on you for lamblasting these posters on here. I was astonished to see such an affront by each of you. All that simply could have been done was point him/her to 3FG who is always happy and ready to give a helping hand OR let one of the people in the know give advise. What if 3FG always came across as belittling to the countless Posters always asking for clarification on NCAA rules? Folks would inevitably quit asking. Then no one would learn.

To you new folks, PLEASE don't leave. I promise that there are many, many Posters on here who are chomping at the bit to help answer questions, support you, not assume anything about you, and point you in the right direction. Just give us a chance. As had been said so many times on here before baseball will end for our son(s) one way or another. Unfortunately when that happens it will also end for us Parents. Our days of coming to sites like this will simply wane and fade away. So as we disappear over the horizon we need the likes of you on here helping pass the torch to the next player and family that comes along.

YGD
YGD,
You and I have been friends for a long time.
I was the first to post a reply and I feel that I owe no apologies for my response.
Please tell me when a question has been asked here and not answered?

BTW, it works both ways, the OP has been around here long enough to know that 3FG knows his stuff, correct? Why not contact him? Why should I or anyone else have to tell him that?

If for one single minute I thought that the OP was incapable of finding the answer then I would have helped with giving it.

I am curious, wonder if the OP can come back with the answer as it has not been revealed (I asked 3FG to drop in by the way). Has the OP took the initiative to look up the answer or contact 3FG?

I would bet not, because I do beleive, and sticking to my beleif, that was not the real intent of the post.

JMO and I am sticking to it.

TPM,

I think I got it.

Yes, basically a college coach cannot evaluate or make in-person, off-campus contact with a player from mid November through February.

13.02.5.3 Quiet Period. A quiet period is a period of time when it is permissible to make in-person recruiting contacts only on the institution’s campus. No in-person, off-campus recruiting contacts or evaluations may
be made during the quiet period.
13.02.5.4 Dead Period. [i] A dead period is a period of time when it is not permissible to make in-person recruiting contacts or evaluations on or off the institution’s campus ........

For baseball the Quiet Period is the Friday of the week of the fall signing of the National Letter of Intent through
the month of February. The Dead Periods are the near the early signing period in November, and the near the first week of the spring signing periood.

I appreciate you following up and the genuine concern if I had found the answer. Unfortunately, I dont have peoples ID's memorized and what they are famous for providing. I post on the average of 8x per month, you post an average of 164x per month.

Read 3FG's answer in YOUR thread. It talks about visitation AND CONTACT. That is precisely why you remain "ignorant" and I am indeed sorry for that. I'll re-post for clarity. Maybe we should start a thread and ask what month we are in right now. Would that be ok for a topic?

If someone brags and you don't like it don't give them the time of day and don't Bump the post by given a reply.
If someone ask somthing and you don't know, don't type anything. But look it up incase i ask it later :P
Problem solved .

-I found this site when my son was in 7th grade, now he's 10th grader and I can't belive we used up 3 pages over this .
btw My son plays baseball better then I do!
But I still know more
YGD - you are dead wrong on this one. We got two knuckleheads here calling the rest of us out when they don't even read the answers in their own threads. Unbelievable.

TPM's response was absolutely right and it should have ended the thread right there. It is wonderful now that Eric G finally sees the light after all this. Amen and Hallelujah!

Did you get it or just copy it. What is the answer to your original question, cb12 needs an answer, thought that you would have found the answer by now. Can he talk to him?
You post more than 8x a month, and of what topic are your posts? Questions asked are sometimes posted in multiple places, for instance the once aobut Standford, in recruiting and ask about colleges. Where you afraid someone would miss the question or someone would miss seeing that your son got an invite?! I don't get that please explain.
Thank you Young Gun Dad. Finally, a voice of reason and one who makes me feel welcome. I was considering running....fast, but now I might stick around awhile.
BTW as a newbie, I have no idea who 3FG or OP is and would have no idea how to contact him/her. I am still trying to figure this site out, but now a little uneasy about putting myself out there with potential "stupid" questions.
No. Sorry CD, I am NOT dead wrong on this one.

You are the worse offender in this thread of all.

As I stated in my other post, there is some cyber bullying going on here and if you don't believe me go back and read where you are calling people ignorant, knuckleheads, etc. What the **** is that for?

I don't know what you do for a living and quite frankly, I don't care. But there is NO need whatsoever for silly childish name calling. Do you handle your personal life in this same manner? People say the wrong thing and you resort to calling them names?

These "adults" who asked the questions are not "calling you or anyone else OUT". I think it's quite clear by the other majority of posters who have responded on here that if you or anyone else didn't like what the OP asked or said - zip your cotton picking lips and move on. How hard is that to understand?

NOW you can close this thread. If you want to keep posturing as to your status on here as a Moderator and you're never wrong, then keep replying and we can keep this thing alive.

This a great thread, because it is a perfect example of why most here are lurkers instead of participants.
As some of the posters have politely advised the OP to search out the answer and conduct some research. Can that not apply to every question that has ever been asked on any subject? The answer is out there, whether it is on the world wide web,in a book or still hidden in a tomb.

Oh, I have one more question...can someone tell me who is the overall manager of this site? I just have a question for him/her.
Thanks

Just to let you know that we DO answer questions, the owner of the site is Julie, aka MN Mom.
Now if you did a little poking around you may have found that answer! As a new poster will give you the benefit of doubt you didn't know where to look.
Just kidding, make sure that you hold your cursor to the left (top) where you will find lots of good information.

Could you show me where someone asked a question (besides the OP here) and got chewed out for asking. I am talking a legit question asked legit as well. I am not talking aoubt the posters that come whining about something, but about asking genuine questions. Thanks in advance.
I wish I had time to sit and do a little poking around. Unfortunately, I work fulltime, manage a home with three children and a spouse, cook meals, do laundry, clean the house, also own another business in which I need to work after I work my fulltime job, volunteer in my community....yada yada yada...you get it. Since you obviously research my posts, you will notice that most (if not all) are at night, when I am home, have the dishes done and can finally sit down to catch up after putting in a long day. I thought this forum was a way to get some good, quick answers from people who obviously know much more about this process than me - including you and cleveland dad and other old timers. I didn't realize that I would be harassed and called names. I've never felt quite so unwelcome in anything I've ever been a part of. I'm not giving up hope though! I believe that there are many good people out there that won't yell at me for asking a question. I hope that someday I can help others.

3FG is 3FingeredGlove, who was the one who answered your question, OP means original poster, in this case EricG.
I used to be someone else a long time ago, then TigerPawMom, now just TPM. I have been here since my son was a freshman in HS, now he is 25 years old, figure that out. I have seen and heard it all, I have all the posts that I do answering questions, and I am a mom.

No one to talk to. Just go about our business by clicking on the search functions and being robots.

Very good post Danny!

That's how I got a lot of the information I pass on to others, so what's wrong with using search?
BTW, redbird made that suggestion twice, thanks, not sure if anyone caught it the first time.

No but people can also take responsibility for finding their own answers. There was a similar topic started only 2 weeks ago. In this case, a seach would have taken only 45 seconds.
