Baseball,

Yes they did wait till they went up two runs but they scored those runs by running backwards. One player even did a cartwheel as he was rounding second. Amazing how he caught the edge of the base and never missed a stride.

My three sons,

I think you heard wrong, that would have constituted a forfeit. But, you should come out and see the pregame. The moms put on a mean display of pepper.

Today the Whitney Young Dolphins took the long drive to play Prairie Ridge.......At the bottom of 2 innings of play it is Dolphins 10-2 over Prairie Ridge. Troy White hit a Grand Slam for Young.

Nate Kamin is pitching for Young and Prairie Ridge has pulled their side arm submarine starter.

Going in to the bottom of the third inning it is Dolphins 10-5 over Prairie Ridge. Prairie is now on its third pitcher.

Now going into the bottom of the fourth inning and the Dolphins are still up 10-5. Young loaded up the bases again, but Prairie Ridge got out of the jam.

Bottom of the 5th inning and it is Young 10 and Prairie Ridge 7. Gabe Henriques is now pitching for Young and has slipped on the mound twice.

At the middle of 6 innings it is 10-8. Prairie had bases loaded, but only scored one run in the 6th.

Young scored one run in the 7th inning 11-9.

Now in the middle of the 7th inning it is raining hard. Since the 1st inning Prairie Ridge has been dumping 150 lbs of diamond dry down on the pitchers mound at the middle and end of each inning to keep the game going.

In the bottom of the 7th inning, the wet field conditions and a slippery ball create havoc for the Dolphins. For the Dolphins it was too many errors and misplays throughout the game. The final score ends with Prairie Ridge coming back to score three runs and get the win 12-11.

The rain may have done the Dolphins in. This was a tough loss for the hard hitting Dolphins giving the game away.

I think the weather didn't help either team. The field was ok but it was just miserable in the first two innings. Swank 3 run homer and the junior pitchers did a good job considering they rarely play. The entire PR infield was subs other than Swank at first base. Swank, Mitroff and the sophmore had good day at the plate.

Two good teams that should play each other again !
I'm not sure what's more annoying at this point...
Mark Ormond's obsessive, over the top play by play and posturing for I don't know what...all on the expense tab of a team that his own kid plays on...

Or, the little dweebs that pop up to make stupid comments on the heels of every post he makes.

Strike up the band...let the accordian player do his Ramones tune

Smelt season is almost over in Chi. I'll be at the lake with a warm glass of whiskey, my girly and the transistor, listening to the Sox game. Old school. Like the old school where the internet didn't exist and the blowhards were confined to a corner tavern...Teams built reputations based on a little box score a few pages back. There was a certain sense of mystery around that process that was undeniably compelling.

I think both camps in this p**s*ng match are neck and neck losers.

horry cow, GET A LIFE!!!

Thanks to Roy hobbs for keeping it real and positive at the same time.

Coho, that is all this board has come down to. Postings by limited few boosters of various teams. That say and present things that others feel compelled to respond to, oh well. Maybe dolphin mom is for hire and someone can pay her to follow and post for their favorite team. How many teams are playing accross the region on a daily basis? Exactly, so if other people want to post fine. Why do you care who says what about which team. Nobody is forcing you to log on.
Highland Park leads Glenbrook North after 5 innings, 9-3.The game was suspended due to darkness, although the heavens opened up just after GBN was retired for the final out. Now we will need to make up the final 2 innings. Jon Menke took the hill for HP, giving up 2 hits, 3 runs (2 earned), with 3 walks and 5 K's. The game could have been called due to rain.
The Whitney Young Dolphins broke into the Tribune Top 10 and are now ranked as Number 6.

Like it or not, Young was the city's first magnet high school. See page 48 of Friday, April 25, 2008 Sun Times. Excerpted are quotes from an article about Bernarr Dawson, the schools first principal who recently died, with services today. The article cites his achievements as the schools first principal.

"Whitney Young has a national reputation for academic and athletic achievement. Its students are always nationally ranked in academic decathlons, National Merit and as Illinois State Scholars. The school is genuinely multi-cultural and thousands apply annually to attend Whitney Young. The school has changed education in the city in many ways."

I was just looking at some local school baseball websites and I came across some scores that were of interest. For Example:

Freshman-Hinsdale Central 33 Proviso East 1

even worse

Soph Hinsdale Central 41 Proviso West 1

Seriously....Is anyone held accountable for running those scores up like that? Says a lot about their program. At leat they can beat up on the weaker teams.
Whitney Young is the best and I am sending all my kids and grandkids there to be dolphins

Being "downstate" and reading some of these posts, seriously, MEDICATE!

This might be the first year in some time where the parody is so apparent that there aren't just 2 or 3 programs that are dominating. In fact, no one is dominating. Edwardsville isn't what they have been and yet, they short gamed O'Fallon 13-3. O'Fallon has been handing some teams their lunch. Highland is the closest to dominating and they are in 3A. Jake Odorizzi threw a 1 hitter yesterday as Highland beat Jerseyville. However, I thought it interesting that Jake only had 4 ks.

BTW, if anyone wonders how my old team is doing now that I'm no longer on the sidelines, they are 14-6. Goes to show you how important I was. (BTW, since I left to watch my kid play softball, she is... NEVERMIND! Wink)
