Bartonville Limestone opened its season with a no-hitter by senior RHP Ryan Camp as the Rockets beat Normal Community 10-0 in five innings.

Camp, who narrowly missed a perfect game thanks to one error, needed just 52 pitches to finish the gem and struck out nine and walked none.

Now that's a good way to open the season.

The best part of the whole deal was the e-mail he sent me afterwards:

"March 19- W 10-0 0 BBs 9 Ks 0 Hits. We came out ready to play."

That's the entire e-mail. I can't wait to see what the next two months hold for this kid.

Just to be clear on the Barrington-Huntley game. It was called for darkness in the bottom of the sixth with Barrington ahead 13-12, bases loaded and no outs.

The game was played at Huntley.

I thought that once an inning begins, the inning must be completed.

Those umpires are either ignorant of the rules or are a bit shady in their manipulation of them.

Just when you think you have seen it all. I was at a game the other day and its was the home teams final AB in the bottom half. They get the bags to 2nd and 3rd and down a run,(at home against another local HS)

Kid lines one to the OF and the homeplate ump calls the game as the OF is picking up the ball(light enough to hit but too dark to throw and catch i guess) to make a play that would have been the winning run.. never have I seen this,...and hope to never again.

I didnt think that a game could be called in the bottom of an inning. in other words, if the sixth inning begins, then you cant let the top of the inning be played and then call it.

CSl umpires always call games or allow games to go on considering the ability to see and/or play for the entire inning (both halves).

This being the case, i find it perplexing that the Barrington game got through the top half of an inning and then was called.

Make sense?

with you now, Umpires will in most cases use discretion with the idea that the inning will be completed in full. However: a game can be called at any time. Thanks for the clarification.

March 20 - Marmion Academy defeated West Aurora 8-7 in a game shortened to 6 innings due to darkness.

If the Ump calls the game due to darkness in the middle of the inning, the game picks up at the score of the last full inning completed.

There is a difference between being called for weather and called for darkness. The rule you state is for weather conditions like rain resulting in poor fielding conditions--howver, is this also the case with darkness? That is why I mentioned earlier how umps just call games at the full inning, anticipating darkness in the CSL and MSL.
