Here’s what I think. Was and am a big Rod Stewart fan, but does anyone else think, if he was unknown and was judged on his performance tonight, he would have been in the bottom three.

I’ve lost faith in the Idol voters. How does Chris and Paris for that matter end up in the final three? However, I think they might have picked the right person to vote off.
I think the voters made a mistake with this one, but regardless there are I think the finals will still be Katherine, and Chris with Taylor being in the final three. My vote anyway!

PG - I agree that was not one of Rod's best performances. That's one of my favorite songs and like I've said, I've been a Rod Stewart fan for 30 years. I think perhaps being 60 something, having a fiance and a new baby might be wearing on Rod! Smile I still enjoyed seeing him perform though!
Woody - just maybe Rod is becoming too long in the tooth Smile

My favorite Rod Stewart tune was actually written by Cat Stevens and recently performed by Sheryl Crow.

The First Cut Is The Deepest
(Cat Stevens)

I would have given you all of my heart
But there's someone who's torn it apart
And she's taken just all that I had
But if you want I'll try to love again
Baby I'll try to love again but I know

The first cut is the deepest
Baby I know the first cut is the deepest
But when it come to being lucky she's cursed
When it come to loving me she's the worst
I still want you by my side
Just to help me dry the tears that I've cried
And I'm sure going to give you a try
And if you want I'll try to love again
Baby I'll try to love again but I know

The first cut is the deepest
Baby I know the first cut is the deepest
But when it come to being lucky she's cursed
When it come to loving me she's the worst

I still want you by my side
Just to help me dry the tears that I've cried
But I'm sure gonna give you a try
'cause if you want I'll try to love again
Baby I'll try to love again but I know

The first cut is the deepest
Baby I know the first cut is the deepest
When it come to being lucky she's cursed
When it come to loving me she's the worst
PG:
I agree, that performance was bad.

I usually cut some slack for the old guys...and when it comes to old guys...don't I know "it takes one to know one"!

I had an open mind...I fed him some line to slacken it up a bit...but when he started to sing, my mind snapped shut and I started reeling all of that slack line onto the safety of my spool...I'm going to have to be more careful before doling it out again!

Ok...ok...I'll cut him some slack again after reading lafmom's post...I'm a decade younger than Rod, but I couldn't even start to think about handling a new fiance and a new baby in my sixties!

I'll be looking forward to my next issue of AARP'S magazine with the feature...AARP Exclusive Interview! Inside what's left of Rod Stewart's mind!..."Aging Rocker Goes From Rocking Chair to Rocking the Cradle--Lullabies Prove Not Soothing At All!"

Too long in the tooth indeed! That would explain all of those shredded pacifiers littering the nursery floor!

And I would have to agree with you...The First Cut is the Deepest is a very appropriate song considering Rod's...ahem...performance last night.

Now wait just a minute......guys get for saying that Kellie Pickler is cute but it's perfectly fine for the women to say that Taylor is "Charming"???? MULARKEY!!!! You can spin it any way you want but drool is drool

The Beezers sensitive side comes out. Big Grin

Great post Beezer I was waiting for that angle to show it's face. Now........could you stop by my house and explain that mindset to my wife. It will be palpable comming from a 3rd party. Cool

I think the only reason Chris was in the bottom three is because he was the first performer of the evening and followed by some terrific performances which left his somewhat forgettable. Seems that the first one is the one most often forgotten in the voting process. You just don't want to be the opening act of the night.
I listened to the performances right before the voting and I wasn not at all surprised that Chris ended up in the bottom three. I thought his voice was weak. In fact, if the schedule had been flipped and they had to do this type of music before Chris had a chance to do rock and roll, he might well have been the first one voted off. Chris fans got all excited because he was able to sing a slow song on key. Sort of like how excited we Kellie fans got when she was able to sing Bohemian Rhapsody without screwing it up too badly. In neither case were the performances objectively good, particularly in comparison to others. By the way, I have never liked Taylor but I thought his song, particularly the ending, was great.
boxing Beezer, I'm your corner with you, well........ maybe a little outside the ring, well...... at least I do know that 911 number.

I don't understand, maybe it's because my wife is in geriatric nursing Wink, but she continues to insist she is infatuated with Rod Stewart and envy's the woman carrying his child. She knows she can say that to my face because she means it in a romantic and respectful way. Now, if I spun those same thoughts in a Kellie direction I would be a knuckle draggin, scum suckin, 2-bit womanizer, crazy and way out of my league.

My point is that us guys have feelings too. hi

No, she's probably right.

MULARKEY! Please Beezer...there is a difference between objective appreciation and drool.....Pickler is awful.....and her "act" is wearing thin.......

......and I don't recall anyone posting a picture of Taylor in his Prom tux......that thread with Kellie a la prom dress and/or bikini dress is still drying out.....or hadn't you noticed? Roll Eyes

.....and Rod is still adorable....but it was a disappointing performance.....

LadyNMom - Agree with ya! I've always been a loyal fan and will keep in being so! Wink One bad performance does not a failure make! Smile

Rz - Your wife is exactly right! Geriatric nursing is also my favorite nursing, so I suppose she and I think alike! Big Grin

Reason to Believe is my all time favorite Rod song, althought First Cut is a great song. I loved the Cheryl Crow rendition too CD!

it's tough thinking of any of them trying to sing opera

Again, you could have said the same thing about country & western week. Some of them managed, such as Chris to perform a creative version of a country tune and I imagine the same thing will happen here. For example, I wonder if the rock opera "Tommy" is considered fair game?

Other operatic considerations could include songs from Andrew Lloyd Weber's Jesus Christ Superstar or Phantom of the Opera that may provide suitable, contemporary material for some of these performers.
Beezer and rz,

I'm chiming in a bit late, but I must say that you are clearly wrong. You men are guilty of drooling - and probably all the other times your wives accused you, too! Eek We women, on the other hand, are expressing dignified - perhaps even maternal - yes I'd have to say completely honorable - appreciation for a cute puppy-dog sort of guy (Taylor).
rude

Now if you want to put Richard Gere, Mel Gibson, or James McDaniel on a TV screen, then you can talk about drool...

LadyNMom - To be very honest, I've seen very little of any of the shows. BUT, if anybody's act is wearing thin, it's Taylor "Hey....Ho" Hicks. Call him "Charming", "Endearing", "cute", "Entertaining" or even "Engaging".....ya'll are drooling all over his gray hair and polyester lounge act jackets as he hops around the stage. And apparently now we can add Rod Stewart to the "charming" list. No drooling, huh?

For what it's worth, I'm not the one who posted a picture of Pickler in her prom dress. I simply thought it was "charming". greenwinky Big Grin

Andrea Bocelli.....should be an interesting show!

I agree that she is quite good, but even Katherine would have trouble with our local phone book.

For example, here is a sampling from our Residential listings...

Estella Abarca
Mahmoud Abbasi
Amen Abdallah
Alaadlin Abdelhamid
Maamoon Abdeljaber
Aziz Abdulla
Olive Abeh
Aureliano Abeja
Walid Aboushanab
Antonio Aboytes
Steven Abramowicz
Vladimira Abrtova
Osama Abuelsheik
Sherri Abufakuseh
Ibrahaim Abuhumos
Hanadi Abukhdeir
Augustin Abundis
Amjad Aburahma
Elvorio Aburto
Majed Abuwardeh
Jeffrey Ach
Kenneth Achterkirchen

And this sample comes from only the first half column on the first page!

I apologize right up front for any misspellings. I did my best!

And don't get me wrong...I love the rich, lively, tapestry of mixed ethnic backgrounds in our area...quite fascinating really.

My point is...even Katherine would have trouble mastering the music that would be produced from the attempt at singing these names!

**cough** mularky **cough** greenwinky

I'll tell ya what, if you can convey to rz and I how we can communicate to the female population an affinity for Kellie Pickler as you ladies have for Taylor, we're for it (sorry to speak on your behalf rz but I'm sure you'd agree).

I'm not going to weigh in on who should win, but as for Rod Stewart faves, "Stay With Me" is one that still makes me reach for the volume knob when it comes on the radio. Just look out for me zig zagging down the road as I pound out the keyboard riffs against my steering wheel!

I also have a newfound respect for Rod. Anyone who can go from teenage grave digger to 40-year music biz survivor to geezer father (and his wife is in the Kelly Pickler category from an age and looks perspective!) .... No wonder he looks old. He IS old! And probably darned tired, too!

I would say they definitely got it down to the right final 6. Any one of them could win it, and it's just a question of the preferences of the TV audience and those willing to persist in calling in. This is the strongest group they've ever had and, IMHO, several of them are destined for the big time whether they win or not.

For the baseball analogy: You don't have to be the top pick in the draft to have future success in MLB. Whoever gets voted out next week can be the first to start negotiating with record labels.
Midlo Dad - I agree with you on all accounts. I, too, think this is the strongest group that they've had. I can't imagine any of them beating Carrie Underwood in success in the future, but I may be bias - I just LOVE her! I still think Katherine is a hair above all others, but it's a great group!

As far as Rod - Stay With Me is a great one too! I still have my huge Rod Steward album collection from my younger years including the a picture disc! Smile

Julie, I want to go on record saying that I've never been right nono, and I have a witness of 25 years who will attest to that under oath. My drool is the lingering affect of an extra large dose of Novocain as a child. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Laf - Like I've mentioned (or at least alluded to) I'm not a big "Idol" fan but isn't Kelly Clarkson the most successful winner so far?

As an aside - the one show of this type that I really enjoyed was "Rock Star / INXS". I thought ALL of the participants were very good singers AND they had to write some of their own songs and music. I'm not a musician but they seemed to be much more talented compared to Idol contestants IMHO.

Beez - Maybe you're right? I'm not a fan of Kelly's at all, so I'm not really sure how many hits she's had. I don't think that Clarkson has anywhere near the appeal or talent though to have the longevity that Underwood will experience. At least that's my call! Smile

CD - we were posting at the same time. I just don't see it with Kelly! noidea

I definitely agree. I'm NOT a Taylor Hicks fan. Nor do I care for Kellie anymore...I now think they are fakes...

Thinking more and more like it's Katherine---I don't think there is ANY kind of music that she can't sing. And she is beautiful...

But hey! "Everyday is Anything Can Happen Day!"

Interesting gossip here!

The final 6

The Not so Innocent Country Bumpkin
The Traveling Salesman
Jim Neighbors
Minnie Mouse
Hard Rocker
Can't think of anything to describe Katherine

Don't understand all the talk about who's appealling and why. Who cares??? Some of us are too old to get excited about stuff like that.
One question... Just where is that picture of Pickler everyone's referring to?Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin
