I believe Tebow manipulated the media in college to make a public religious statement when he picked up on their discussing his scripture lessons on his eye black. He changed it from week to week once the media picked up on it. Until then it was always John 3:16. His praying in the end zone is just as much "look at me" as some of the dances players do while pointing at their chests. Please don't ask which one I prefer. I prefer players not draw attention to themselves when they are part of a team. It took eleven players to get to the end zone.

Jake Plummer said today if Tebow would stop telling us how much he loves Jesus most fans would be fascinated with his uniqueness and tune in to see if he succeeds rather than half the people rooting for his failure.

(Before someone says Plummer was a bum he was 39-15 as a Broncos starter. He had the misfortune of following a legend at his position.)

While I will never claim to know everything, let me first say that while reading these replies, I can appreciate your sentiments on the subject, RJM. However, I would have to politely disagree that Tebow prays in the endzone for the "look at me" effect. Obviously, none of us know him at a personal level so it would be poor of us to pretend to know what his motives are.

However, one thing that really sticks out is that Tim Tebow is a Christian who plays football. Not a football player who is Christian. I think there is a difference between the two. Differing religious perspectives will say different things about this, but that's what I'm striving to be. If you're Christian, the goal is to put Christ first in your life. I think this is exactly what Tim Tebow has done.

Also, from a secular perspective, it would be irresponsible to say Tim Tebow is all about himself. If you listened to the press conference the other night after he led his team down the field for the game-winning touchdown, Tebow thanked almost everyone in the Broncos organization before he credited himself. That's as far from "me first" as they come I think.

Just my two cents,

mstcks
I agree. I think he and the team right now are getting a lot of fuel from the haters.

For those of you who did not see the game his passing stats should have been much better. At least 3 if not 4 drops by Broncos receivers. He made some great throws as well.

To be fair the Broncos turnaround has as much to do with Von Miller and the D as it does Tim Tebow. That guy can not be blocked with Dumervil on the other side.

Imagine NBC will move the Broncos-Pats game to Sunday night in a few weeks. Been a while since the home crowd has had a reason to get really, crazy excited. Should be fun.
I never cared for the Tebow hype when he was in college. I kind of thought he was a fake and just programmed to say things.

I've now gone full circle and believe this kid is as real and honest as they come. It's not a matter of what others think, I believe his belief system allows him to accompish special things. Maybe it even helps others achieve great things.

I don't think it matters at this point if he becomes a great QB or quality passer. Is he lucky? Is he blessed? I don't know! Obviously he is a very talented athlete with some very rare attributes. Even if he fails now or the Broncos start losing, I've seen enough to say I'm a Tebow fan.

IMO, He is only playing now because of the Bronco fans. Didn't appear that the coach or Elway would have gone with him without the unbelievable support from the fans. He was listed as the #3 QB earlier this year.

IMO Fox and Elway are the most shocked of anyone at what has happened. I guess sometime things happen that simply can't be explained.

I won't be around when it happens, but is Tim Tebow destined to be involved in politics at some point?

PG Staff, I agree completely. Only way he gets a shot is due to all the fan pressure on Elway and Fox. Frankly the fans said they weren't going to show up and watch Orton play QB and lose anymore. Tebow and lose fine, but no more Orton.

I have seen some local columnists start to be a little critical of Elway's comments regarding Tebow's abilities to play QB. Seems Elway's memory is a little foggy about his struggles his first two seasons in the league Big Grin

I would think that Tebow would now fit Fox's style of play to a T. Win with running the ball and solid defense. QB can not turn over the ball and Tebow does exceptional in that facet. Something like one turnover in 275 touches. Best in the NFL.

Guy has a legitimate shot to be 8-3 as a starter this year maybe even 9-2. Going to be hard to make a change after those results IMO.
There is more to this than faith, it's called being a positive influence, now whether someone believes it's because of his faith that he is positive, than that is ok in my book too.

I do believe when he was drafted they said it was because of the positive vibes he gives out, and obviously it must be true.

I believe what goes on in the cluhouse reflects on the field, in any sport.

I too am on the Tebow bandwagon, I like to see the naysayers squirm.
The story of the year is getting buried under all the Tebow overhype. Andy Dalton is a rookie. He didn't have a season to watch and learn like Tebow. He has a rookie receiver on one side. He has a first year starter receiver on the other side. He has a second year tight end. Dalton plays for one of the most pathetic, poorly run franchises over the past fifteen years. The Bengals were 4-12 last year.

Dalton has LED his team to a 7-4 record and contention for a playoff spot in the toughest division in the NFL.** His stats dwarf Tebows. The Bengals don't have a play not to lose strategy like the Broncos have with Tebow. Dalton has completed 60% of his passes for 2,500 yards and 16 TD's. He should be NFL Rookie of the Year. Tebow sat and watched his rookie year. Unfortunately, Dalton never wrote scripture on his eye black in college or prayed in the end zone in the NFL. Therefore, average fans aren't aware of him.

** Now that the Bears don't have a capable QB after Cutler's injury

I believe the plan was put Tebow in, lose games, get rid of the pro Tebow chants, and draft Luck, Bartley or Jones. By winning they've screwed up getting a top prospect QB. Elway made his comments so the Bronco fans don't fall too in love with Tebow. He knows they can't beat quality teams with this game plan.

As for Elway's debut to the league times have changed. Colleges run pro style offenses now. Heck, many high schools run pro style offenses now. Players with decent mechanics step right into the NFL and play now. They've run pro style offenses. They come into the NFL understanding how to read defenses and timing plays. That wasn't the case when Elway came up. Elway had the mechanics. He needed to learn a pro style offense. At Stanford he at least played in a passing offense. He just needed to develop timing with his receivers and not throw through them. He actually threw the ball too hard. Even when Elway had the timing down his receivers talked about getting Elway crosses (stitching on the end of the football) on their arms.

In Elway's second year he LED his team to a division title and a 13-3 record in what was the toughest division in football that year. He threw for 2,500 yards and 18 TD's. Please note this is Tebow's second season.

Andy Dalton is having a great year. So are many other QBs. Not sure what that has to do with Tebow.
LOL! Smile

I respect how hard he works at his game. I don't believe he will be a successful NFL QB. I don't care for the extracurricular and promotional stuff.

I don't particularly care for any NFL player who does anything to draw individual attention to themselves after doing their job. I can understand a burst of emotion causing a spike of the ball after a touchdown. But that's about it.

I remember when Billy White Shoes Johnson was humorous since he was one of a kind. But now most players have an act in the end zone. I guess we can blame it on Homer Jones for being the first spiker.
Any fan of the NFL knows who Andy Dalton is. I happen to really like Andy Dalton. Right after the Rose Bowl win over Wisconsin when he gave his interview I became a big fan of Andy Dalton. What a class guy. I like him because he sounded like a very humble and gracious young man. I like him because he is clean cut and speaks very well. I like him because all he did was give his team mates credit for the win. They tried to praise him and get him to say something about himself but he kept on praising his team mates and his coaches. I hope he continues to have success both in the NFL and in life.

The reasons I like Tebow are pretty much the same reasons. And the fact that I pull for underdogs. I think most Americans do as well. If you tell someone they can't do something, if the media keeps telling us someone can't do something. If the talking heads keep telling us someone can't do something. I like to see a guy say "Yes I can." The goal is to win. I don't care how you do it. I don't care how pretty you are doing it. Just find a way to win. I admire Tim for not being ashamed of his beliefs. For not being ashamed of standing up for something he believes in.

I think its clear where you stand RJM and you certainly have the right to feel the way you feel because everyone has a right to like or dislike someone or something. The fact is it is clear that Tim's team mates are rallying behind him. Tim has the ability to inspire those around him. I pull for Tim because I think he is a good guy who stands up for what he believes in spite of others. I pull for Andy Dalton because I think he is a good guy. As of right now he is a successful NFL QB. He won his last game. Will he play a long time in the NFL and win Super Bowls? I have no idea. But something tells me Tim has his eyes on things more important than football down the road. Regardless imo we need more guys like Tim and Andy in this world. JMO

Coach...couldn't agree more on Dalton. My daughter goes to school at TCU. She said he's the same guy on the field, in front of the camera, and in the lunchroom when no one's watching. Love guys like that who have success and handle it so well.
As a LONG TIME broncos fan, i haven't read many of these post on here but decided to comment in as everyone who follows football is commenting to the Tebow "thing". I commend Tebow as a person for doing what he has done and what he will do as he is a GREAT person.. He is a good football player but a qb he is not, he is bringing a FAD to the game and not an evolution, anybody ever heard of the run and shoot yeah alot like that. The offense the Denver Broncos/Tebow are running cannot be sustained to win a championship. He did play his best game as a pro in the minn. game as he was somewhat accurate, although he still has trouble getting rid of the ball ON TIME and yes he makes plays with his feet but holding on to the ball means his other teammates who do their job the way they were taught their whole life have to adjust and sometimes get crucified, such as Ryan Clady all world Left tackle who in his first 2 seasons playing in the nfl had a total of i think 4 holding calls, this year alone is leading the league in holding calls for offensive lineman. I for one am very happy about tebow winning and i hope he does well, becuase in my opinion and i believe the opinion of John Elway (the GM) and coach Fox, the broncos will trade him and his trade value will go up and the broncos will draft a qb from this years class. Tebow is a saint as a person but tebow becomes TEBLOW when it comes to be a NFL passer.
Come On Man!!

You haters and your group never cease to amaze me.

NFL is a WIN league period!! The team is 6-1 in last seven games. Certainly not all because of Tebow but apparantely you and your group don't realize how ridiculous each and every win is making your arguments.

No way any QB that takes a team from 1-4 to 10-6 (very possible if you look at their schedule) and the playoffs or even 9-7 gets traded in the offseason. I will concede they will likely draft a QB but you think the fan base went crazy on Elway to start Tebow wait to see what happens if you trade the QB of a playoff team with that record!!

The team will likely be 9-2 or 8-3 with Tebow starting. He must be doing something right. Jeesh!!

Very very very good points.

As the offensive coordinator at my high school for football I work with our quarterbacks. By no means am I saying that I'm a QB guru on how to play the position at the NFL level but I think I know enough to say Tebow has some flaws in his delivery. He does things I would never teach and makes me question why they didn't try to go ahead and fix them while he was at Florida. Maybe they thought he was a fluke and didn't think it important enough. Who knows?

I know this - as a coach in baseball and football I want to surround myself with winners. I want to surround myself with guys who get it done. It would be nice if they do it mechanically / fundamentally correct but ultimately I want them to get it done. Right now Tebow is getting it done along with the rest of the Broncos. I don't think anybody on this planet knows why it's working but it is. Let it ride out and see where it ends up.
Bronco fan's perspective here:
A. he is 5-1
B. the last 2 qb's orton and Cutler were horrible spokesmen and leaders of the team-- disinterested dudes who made sure they picked up their check
C. he is 5-1

They would have to lose their remaining 4 games for them to trade Tebow.... he is in Denver for the long haul now... he may have won over the stadium weeks ago, but now that he has won over the locker room it is over.

Some people just can't share their faith, it's not in them and that's fine. Some show it by how they lead their life but aren't vocal about it. That's fine. Some show it with their life and are able to tell it too, and that's fine. If you're a believer, you're likely comfortable with all or most of what Tim Tebow is. If you're a non-believer, and you have that right certainly, you don't believe him anyway.

Our speaker at Church yesterday was Mark Moseley, the former Redskins kicker and the only kicker ever to win the NFL MVP award. He is a man of faith, always has been, and he says and shows it. For 45 minutes, he spoke about how his beliefs had impacted his football and non-football world. Nobody stirred at all. Sometimes athletes can use their stature and inside knowledge of the game, stories we all love to hear,to do good things. He shared an amazing story about being out of work for 2 years, being called by Coach George Allen to come kick for him, showing up early, being so excited and thankful about the opportunity, and then being told "The job is yours...if you can beat out the 13 other guys warming up over there...". He got the job and the rest is history.

Nobody that heard that message will forget the MESSAGE. Athletes speaking out can be a really good thing.

There are worse things than having Tebow's jersey being the #1 selling jersey in the NFL.
Ask Vince young were being a winning QB got him who i believe being a starting qb is now like 31-17 or something similiar, so people want to believe in him (Tebow) because he wins but like OUR NFL you have to do things a certain way to be not just successful but a champion.

Yes i would agree Cutler with the DUH face, people still believe in him becuase he has the ability to be a championship qb, why, cannon and mechanics, Orton well enough said he has absolutely no arm and the year he had success in denver was with mcd and the screen offense, and i never doubted tebow and his ability to lead, his demeanor or his character, for which all three i hope he is a successful pro. I hope he leads the broncos to the superbowl, i never said i was a tebow hater. i simply hate his ability as a passer (not as a qb) QB is one of the lone positions where leadership is important, BUT you also have to be able to read a defense and hit a wide open reciever,(which he only did this last game to a certain extent). After the Broncos make the playoffs if not beyond, his time will hopefully have gone because you have to invest to much for one person who could get hurt on any play and is to inconsistant of a passer to maintain long term success. "You can't go all in becuase someone is a good guy and you cannot go all out because someone is not a good guy".

I watched a replay of the Broncos-Vikings game. I will give credit to Tebow for getting done what needed to be done. BUT, the Broncos struggled to beat a 2-10 team that was missing it's top offensive threat in Peterson. The Vikings defense lacks a pass rush. The D-backs can't cover. 100 yards of Tebows 200 yards came on three passes where the receivers were uncovered. What Tebow does bring to the game is the ability to stay on his feet until receivers break open when the pass rush is weak.

So the Broncos are tied for first after stuggling to beat a 2-10 team. The Raiders, who are tied for first lost to a 4-8 team. What does this say about the AFC West? I'm still not sold on Tebow.

The Broncos should win next week. The Bears QB is the worst in the NFL. Their game breaking running back is out for 2-4 weeks. They could only generate 3 points against the Chiefs.

Now as for the Patriots, whomever it was that posted the Colts-Patriots game was close obviously didn't watch the game. It was 31-3 at one point. At 31-10 the Patriots lifted starters including Brady. They went into pass prevent at 31-3, gave up a ton of yardage, points but killed the clock. The Patriots are so decimated in the defensive backfield they started a wide receiver and a DB they picked off the waiver wire earlier on the week. McCourtey looked off his game at one corner after missing the last few games. He'll get it back. He's a Pro Bowler.

The Patriots will put up points. Tebow will be playing "Chase the Patriots" all game. Given the Patriots defensive problems (missing two key pass rushers, a strong side linebacker and their backfield situation) I expect Tebow tro throw for 200 yards against them. They play mostly zone. Just hit receivers in the seams. Orlovsky (who) threw for over 300 yards against the Patriots. Yet his team was never in the game from the end of the fist half.

The Patriots don't have the defense to make it to the Super Bowl. But they will beat the Broncos. Despite this, I expect the Broncos to win their division at 9-7 or 10-6. By week fifteen the Bills should be mailing it in after a good season went bad. Then there's the Chiefs.

We'll know more about Tebow next year. It will be his third year. There will be game film and time for opposing ocaches to figure out how to play him. And here's the schedule other than the division:

Ravens
Bengals
Panthers
Saints
@ Browns
@ Steelers
@ Falcons
@ Buccaneers

If the Broncos finish first they get the Patriots and Dolphins. Otherwise Jets and Bills.

When people talk about leadership on the Broncos there's a name that does not come up. Maybe it does in Denver. Brian Dawkins is a leader with a big L. He may not be a Pro Bowler anymore. But he's a leader in the locker room, sidelines and on the field. He's the guy who will get in a player's face and tell him, "That's not how we do things here."

If I were a Broncos fan my reaction would be ... This beats losing. But it's not the solution.

Ah, but Tebow will have the benefit of off-season training, this winter. Maybe, work on that release of his with some big name FA WRs. (DeSean Jackson) Big Grin

Speaking of winter, what are you doing up there? Not cold enough here for you?

I grew up in New England. I've owned a house on the beach here for several years. As soon as JR headed for college I moved here full time. This is home. Philadelphia was a professional stop for eighteen years. It was a great place to raise kids. Other than being part of the community I never felt connected to the area.

The weather has been the same as Philadelphia all fall. It's 62 at 3:30pm. Normally it's ten degrees colder than Philadelphia. Winter is also usually a month longer on each end. So is ski season. )

I don't believe an off season is going to change Tebow's mechanics enough to be able to pass successfully long term against quality defenses. The current strategy is short term.

If you were management would you want Jackson on your team. The guy is a punk. He's cost himself millions over the past weeks with his behavior. He doesn't even have the presense of mind to behave and produce in his contract year.
