Re: America's Pastime spin-off
I would say you are off base thinking only the rich can travel. My family has been splitting time at the diamonds across the east coast for three years now. We also have not had a true vacation for three years. The way I look at it is if you want it bad enough, you will find a way or means to get it. We look at it as giving our son an avenue to succeed. If he makes it to college or further we have done our job. Even if he ends up doing something else other than baseball we will still feel...

Re: How Did Area Code Tryouts Go?
old pitcher, YOU, would be wrong on the 85% pre selection. It doesn't work like that no matter what any of you think. Old Pitcher, when a pitcher only throws 3-4 pitches that means he was 88-90 plus range and there is no need to waist his arm since the velocity dictates he stay and pitch in the scrimmage. NOT that it was already determined he stay. He hit the magic number of 90 so why throw anymore when your gonna see him in the scrimmage. COME ON!! Lets see the bullpen group of pitchers...

Re: Stike Outs string
OK Ron, I have always felt the best approach in solving a problem is the direct approach except when it comes to the “slump”. There is no such thing as a slump! However there is something we CALL a slump that appears as a dark cloud that creeps over every hitter's head and rains on his batting average from time to time. It rears its’ ugly head as a mechanical or physical problem but it is all mental. To make sure a slump is well engrained in your son’s head be sure to point out his problem...

Re: Kansas University
Rich Price has done an outstanding job of making Kansas a contending program in the Big XII. A conference tourny championship this year and a NCAA Regional Berth are great accomplishments. My only question is how long they can keep Price in Lawrence? His success should open larger doors in the coming year or two.

Re: Still want to play professional baseball???????
I still dont understand why money is always the main topic of discussion regarding the minors, yes its rough, yes its tough, but so are a bunch of other jobs. This is an entry level position to a multi-million dollar a year job. But also remember money isnt everything, i was happier before i had my signing bonus. You cant take this game and base it solely on getting rich, if you do it will humble you real quick. Luckily i've already learned that.If you look at most of the big leaguers, even...

He is an ASSOCIATE SCOUT under Stu Cann of the Atlanta Braves and has been for the past six years. Re: MLB team breakdowns
I am going to do one on the Chicago Cubs, just because I think that they will win it this year. The strength on this team is their pitching, most definitly, as long as they stay healthy. It looks like that the beginning rotation will have Zambrano, Prior, Maddux, Rusch, and Williams. Pretty solid there. That isnt factoring Wade Miller or Kerry Wood either. In the bullpen, they have some talented young lefties in Rich Hill and John Koronka and lots of strong righties as well. David Aardsma,...

Re: Pitching and Size
To PGStaff's point about talent always being #1: In response to a question from a friend, I recently went to the MLB website to survey pitchers on all of the major league rosters. Approximately 600 pitchers total. 194 are listed at 6’ 1” or less. That’s just about one third. (Two-thirds of this group is right handed). And we all know that 1 to 2 inch “enhancements” are common. The 6’ 1” and under group includes: Bartolo Colon; Francisco Rodriguez; Scot Shields; Brandon Backe; Roy Oswalt;...

Re: Pitching and Size
While it's true that the taller pitchers are usually drafted earlier and paid the high bonus'... In the end they all get paid what their talent dictates. That list that Diamondboy put together includes some very rich (though not tall) pitchers. Unforunately, the smaller pitchers have to prove their value on the field. If they do that, they get filthy rich. Talent is still #1 and more important than size (in the end)!
