For those that are not too new to this site...our good friend bbscout was 100%, absolutely certain about Lincecum's future. And he was spot on. I had some very fun conversations with Doug at Sunken Diamond and it was clear he figured out what others did not. Here is a link to a story (February, 2009) about Doug McMillan (bbscout) and his thoughts on Lincecum. The title of the story might throw you off...but read. bbscout on pitching

Ged10 - thanks for the explanation but I would still be interested to hear more from Bluedog on what it means for baseball training. Does it mean instead of taking 1000 swings on a Tee a day versus only taking 10 swings a day that have been carefully planned out in advance? PG - my son was just given a copy of Dustin Pedroia's book from one of his college coaches and he has enjoyed it. Doug McMillan was mentioned in the book. He has been sadly missed around here.

Dale, This is by far the most shocking post I have ever read on this site. Words just cannot express my sadness, and it is difficult to type through the tears. I never had the privilege of meeting your father in person, but I corresponded with him by e-mail and PM occasionally. Doug in 1996 selected several players from Oakland who did not have ability to travel to Long Beach. With the coordinated efforts of the Northern California Scouts Association, we assisted in bus fare from Oakland to Long Beach. Doug is story of a "hero" to the game. Re: Torque the handle?

jja ·
Bluedog, I hear what you're saying. All I am saying is that, strictly speaking, what you're feeling isn't torque. In any powerful swing, forces are applied to the bat along the length of the bat. A batter does not push/pull the bat with the hands as described by Mankin. I know this is a nit, but when people start using the term torque it has a very precise meaning. Torque is not what is happening, that's all. Use of the running start, tip and rip, etc. can have value. But the foundation of...

Jerry, Don't know if you remember me, but this is Brett McMillan here. I couldn't agree more with what you say here. You obviously have more experience than I do, but I have played for teams that utilize the sac bunt and others that would rather hit and run. I loved playing for the latter, and felt that we created more offense with it. There are times for the sac bunt, but when given the option, I love the hit and run because of three things. 1. You're goal is not to give up an out. (Like...

Nats Dedicate Draft To McMillan Posted Jun. 7, 2007 6:42 pm by Chris Kline Filed under: Draft Day: June 7 From BA’s Washington correspondent Lacy Lusk: National crosschecker Chuck LaMar said the club’s draft was dedicated to scout Doug McMillan, who died May 23 of natural causes at age 60, according to reports. McMillan, who scouted the Pacific Northwest and Northern California, worked for the organization for six years. His son Brett is a first baseman at low Class A Hagerstown.

Dustin Pedroia might not be the prototypical major league star when it comes to body type. However, he is very young and he has always been a star player whether it was high school or summer teams. He didn’t get recruited by Arizona State by being over looked as a high school player. He was a star in high school and on his summer team. A great scout, Doug McMillan (BBScout on hsbbw) was one of the first scouts to recognize his talent.
