At Glenbard West...

Downers Grove North 9 - GBW 6 (in 9 innings).

DGN scores 3 runs in the top of the 7th on offensive lineman 1B/P Dex McCauley's 3 run HR.

GBW answers with a 3 run HR in the bottom of the 7th to tie it up (I believe it was hit by their #2 hitter...I don't know his name).

DGN scores 3 more in the top of the 9th...DGN catcher Jeff Lackaff's 2 RBI double ended the scoring.

DGN's record now 5-6...2-1 in conference.

itsrosy, thanks for the kind words. That is coach Stevens son Trevor playing second. He missed the first part of the season recovery from a hockey injury but seems to have given the team a bit of a lift since coming back.

On another note Niles North beat GBS today 7-6. It was an odd but interesting game. Niles North jumped out 7-0 with their ace pitcher on the mound. The Titans came back with 2 in the 4th then 4 in the sixth. With two outs and runners on second and thrid Tom Jahnke ripped a ball toward the hole between thrid and short which I thought was a sure hit. However Niles North's shortstop made leaping grap to end the rally. It was a depressing game from my view, but actully a fairly good game if you like seeing runs scored. I also think that Niles North has a nice solid team and will do better then some might have thought if they get decent pitching from their number 2-4 pitchers.
No sour grapes from a big LT fan. That was one of the best high school baseball games I have ever witnessed. Neither team was going to go down without a fight. It was fun to be at and to watch. Gil Claudio, where did he come from/ I hope he hits like that on our summer team. Congrats to OP-RF on a nice victory. It would have been easy for them to have a letdown after that weekend series but, to Coach Ledbetters credit, he had them refocused. On to the next game....1 Lose does not make a season as 1 series win does not gauruntee anything either. Conference still remains wide open for anyone of a couple of teams in the WSC silver to take. Good Luck the rest of the season to all...And for the rankings, IMO I still think JCA is the team to beat, Joe Benson is the "man"...and will be at the next level too......He is a great baseball player but he has a lot of studs to go along with him..they are as solid as anyone..and to Dave Watson(St.Rita) I personally say keep it going kid, you are and have always been a great player..Good Luck with your college choice, they should be all over you...I know SIU is looking for speed in the outfeild and a good lead off hitter call coach Cal or write him an e-mail and introduce yourself..great team, great conference.....
They got the score wrong: It was 17-16 Loyola.

Wild game indeed: ND up 14-4 after their half of the 5th, ends up 14-14 after 6 and 16-16 after 8. The wind was blowing out to left at 25 mph consistently (gusting to at least 40+) and practically everyone who came in to pitch got hit well. Everyone wasn't fielding the ball very well and the game went about 3.5 hours.

I say throw the game out the window cause none of the pitchers that would pitch in the playoffs for either team threw for very long (at least on our side, cause we have New Trier today and conference starting Sat.). Hell, we had 2 people who hadn't pitched their Sophomore year pitch the final 4 innings.
So let's see, if I get this right, ND backers are throwing out the Loyola score, and according to some, the Maine South result. Just a question--how many of ND's wins should be thrown out because the other team wasn't throwing their best pitcher?

Bottom line, your record is the product of the entirety of your schedule--you don't get to pick and chose the results you like and just keep them.

A loss is a loss is a loss.
My point is, the wind will not be blowing out at 40 mph next time ND and Loyola play, and we'll both have either our #1's or #2's pitching, which was not the case here. The game counts as a loss and that's fine, and mind you, our schedule has been pretty good. All I'm saying is there's not much we can take from a agme like that.
TGong

Got to see you and your guys today. Alex is playing above his age right now. He has great actions and a real good idea at the plate, almost have to stop and think he has two more years to develope. He will be a good one...(already has a good start)

And the sign of a good pitcher is the one who battles through his ok stuff and still gets the win. It happens to everyone, nice job! clap

I suppose using a slavery cliche is always better than bashing Loyola or Maine South.

Without a doubt he didn't mean any offense by it. I just found it amusing that he bent over backwards to make sure people knew he wasn't talking about those 2 schools by way of a slavery cliche. I guess my sense of humor differs from most.
