Re: Does this bother anyone else???
Way to go Russ... more pitchers should have the "ganas" to pitch inside and even hit him for the dispicable displays he puts on after hitting a bomb. Russ Springer and Josh Becket get nothing but props from me!

Re: Does this bother anyone else???
Springer would be in the hospital if he did that to me. He (Springer) is a hamburger and has been a hamburger all of his career. When you're a major leaguer and you're AFRAID to pitch to someone and because you're afraid you drill him, you're a "wuss"!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Does this bother anyone else???
He (Springer) actually made it to the big leagues. Remind us how far you got in your baseball playing career?

Re: Does this bother anyone else???
Springer and Garner were heaved because they had been warned after the first pitch---the ump went by the rules On top of it Bonds and Springer have a "history"

IS...I was drafted by the Braves organization and played in the minor leagues for 2 years. Now, I'm a FAN and I can say what I want! (Cartman in South Park) How far did you get in your baseball career? When a guy like Springer throws at me, I have a problem with that...When he throws 5 pitches (one behind me and then one that hits me)at me, I'd go out and punch him in the face. Barry is too nice with mopes like Springer. I'm really disappointed in his teammates not doing anything. Of course,...

Re: Does this bother anyone else???
Pitchers work on location for their whole life and still have a hard time hitting spots in the zone. Where do they practice hitting the 5th rib? Springer just didn't have his control down. But, you have to give him credit for not giving up.

Re: Does this bother anyone else???
Randy... I'm stunned that you would write this and agree that he should have been drilled. He threw the 1st pitch behind Bonds. All of the rest were WAY INSIDE before he finally hit him. Had nothing to do with "control". He was throwing at him, simple as that. "...give him credit for not giving up..." Shame on you. I dont' care if you HATE Bonds. Best way to get back at someone: Giants 10-1; Giants 14-3; and, Giants 10-1. You go, Barry.

Re: The Count, What pitch do they throw
Springer anecdotally talks about Halladay having two or three good innings throwing mostly fastballs, then giving up a double and immediately going to more sliders. That is the reason for my inquiry. My gut agrees but there are so many variables as you know. If there are no outs, two sac flies could score a run. If there are two outs, may stick to more fastballs.

Re: Cost of being recruited
Oh, great, a really good thread is back on target. For a moment I thought, with all the sister and brother stuff going on here, it was going to turn into a discussion of pro wrestling or an episode of Jerry Springer. For the record, I have a second cousin in pro wrestling. But I am not well-versed on the subject. Sorry, I just couldn't help myself.

BOF- I agree with you, I had my son load Springer's CD on his iPOD, it's much easier than having him watch the DVD. We had seen Springer give the same exact talk at a USC camp a little over a year ago...good stuff. STEVE- I bought The Mental Game of Baseball last year. I skimmed through the book, and noted areas for KD to read. It's tough to get teenagers to sit down and read, especially after their regular studying is completed and they just spent 3-4 hours on the field and in the gym. Let...

Re: Quality at bats
I was really disappointed by the Springer CD although he makes some valid points about having quality at bats versus focusing on avg. Some these ideas are really good, you would think there would be a Sabermetric stat or some other widely used metric for measuring the quality of an at bat.

Re: Quality at bats
Springer has some great things in that CD. It's not supposed to be a school book. It gives numerous ideas that are important about having a plan, being a great teammate, and playing for the right reasons. My guys have been listening to his CD for years before games and it absolutely gets them in the right frame of mind.

Re: Player Assaults Opposing Coach
Just found out that not only was this player not disciplined, he was allowed to stay on the team and play his next game. During which he got pretty physical with TWO players. One of those boy's brothers came off the bench and shoved the kid hard enough his feet left the floor and he hit the bricks hard because no one else was stopping him. This ended the game, which was already in the 4th quarter, but still... IMO, the officials certainly did not have control of either game. They're to blame...

Re: Springer
My son listens to Springer all the time. Not sure his CD is for high school players and below so much. I don't think amateur players have to go up there looking for curve balls all that much unless they are down in the count. For professional hitters, the advice makes lots of sense because pitchers can pitch backwards ie., throw breaking balls in fastball counts and vis versa. I love his advice where he tells hitters to go up there looking for what you are going to "get" as opposed to what...

Nice post, Stanwood. The Steve Springer CD addresses a lot of what is posted on this thread. I liked it so much that I loaned it to a D1 dad who found it applicable and is taking it to his son (Soph starter) to listen to. It's about the process, not the here and now.

Texas 1836, That is a great CD.I would recommend it to all incoming fish. It may not sink in right away, but it will start to make sense one day. Brad started telling me about how he new Steve Springer and the CD he had made and that Steve had given one to Jim Thome. He said Thome loved it and he wanted some more to pass around to his...
