I my area, lots of this happens. At a school in our area, they just got a new turf field at the beginning of this year, and someone went and spray painted a picture of a certain part of male anatomy on the outfield turf, and now it won't come out. I have also heard of spray painting things on the concrete, then covering it with concrete sealer, so it is impossible to get up. I also know of some people that went to a different high school, dug a hole in the center of the pitchers mound, and...

Re: Season in review ... from a mom's perspective

Injuries seem to be a common theme this year. My son had a great fall in his freshman year at JUCO level. He was anticipating the spring but kept having this nagging, intermittent pain so saw a doctor while he was home for Christmas. MRI was inconclusive so he decided to do the therapy the doc suggested and just play. His velocity was way down even coming back to begin the spring and he lost his shot in the starting rotation. He was perfect in his first two appearances but then had a rough...

Re: Does Anyone Have Any Experience with "SLAP Tears"?

My oldest son is a football player in college. During spring ball , no pads just doing some 7 on 7 stuff a kids facemask hit him in the shoulder. He got a slap tear in the labrum and just had the procedure to repair it. He has a sling on for four weeks with no rehab allowed. Then four weeks of rehab without the sling. Then he was told he could resume working out with no overhead lifting (ever again). He is not a qb so he does not have to throw. But as a baseball player your son will need a...

Re: Little League Pitch Count Option

Linear ·
So why did the people of my generation (when we were kids) play baseball from sun up to sun down, on the sandlot all day, and then a game 3 nights per week, plus practices, throwing upwards of 200-300 throws per day every day, a very high percentage of which were stress throws, and my generation has less arm injuries than today? You really think the doctors know anything about training an arm? Let me clue you in.....doctors repair arms......they do not train them. And if you ask a doctor who...

There are a number of problems with your logic. First, the sample size is too small (and is not scientific). Second, it could be that you were lucky; just as...

Re: Little League Pitch Count Option

Coachric ·
Personally I would have liked it called Artie Schukenfelt surgery. Too many pitches in one day or outing can be harmful as has been proven. The proven side has come from a record number of surgeries on young kids to repair damage, and their histories usually involved over throwing. However, many have shown that throwing of some kind everyday can be benefical.

Re: Elbow pain

Coach Chris ·
Did the hyperextension happen when throwing or was it due to something unrelated (e.g. a fall)? If the hyperextension was related to throwing, then it could reveal a problem with the underlying ligaments (e.g. looming need for Tommy John surgery). With any hyperextension injury you have to be careful because some damage could have been done to the ligaments (whose primary purpose is to maintain the integrity of joints and prevent hyperextensions from happening). This a big deal because,...

Re: Fair/Foul and New Replay Rules

Michael S. Taylor ·
The current technology is not accurate, it is better than the first system but the MLB supervisors look at what it questions and decides the true misses from that. Which means if there are ten questions, usually 6 or 7 get tossed, leaving two wrong. If the umpire misses two that are not questionable then you have a total of four by the human, six by the machine. Now who is calling safes and outs at home? Who are calling check swings, foul tips, fair/fouls and balks. All calls that have to be...

Re: Time to get a new glove...

piaa_ump ·
I mildly disagree....and as long as you can afford a new glove this is what I recommend.... Your "old faithful" is showing signs of becoming worn out.....now you should be thinking about its ultimate replacement....and now is the perfect time!!! What you do not want to do is do nothing and have a major structural breakdown happen in the course of an upcoming season and have to struggle to get a new glove broken in for use....... You should buy a new glove now.....and send off "old faithful"...

We just put new dugouts on our high school field this year. We had above ground dugouts and tore them down and moved them back off the field further and made them in ground. We asked a local architectural firm to donate their service to design them (drainage is very important!)We then enlistd about 6 or 7 local contractors to do a piece of the work. One tore them down (they were concrete), one hauled off the old dugouts, one dug the new dugouts, one poured the concrete walls and floors, one...

Why? Your body needs time to repair the damage (even minor) that occurred during the season. You'd be better served by taking a few months off.
