Hands down, the Dallas Mustangs Connie Mack teams of the early-to-mid 90's were the best of the best. There have been no teams of any such comparison since. There were far fewer teams back then and locally they had their pick of the litter. They were dominant and many of those guys went on to have very nice pro careers.

I am going to give you conflicting advice in comparison to the two above. Keep cost in mind; it is not necessary to attend the Team One Showcase this summer, especially if he values his summer team and he is a good player. If he is a DI prospect, he definitely does not need to go, and if he is not a DI prospect, then it is way too early to go. Just my opinion.

I don't know what you want to read into what other people may have said. From where I sat, and from what I saw on the TV news, the call was wrong and would've been wrong at any time under any circumstances. Given the game situation, I would have at least liked to have seen the 2B ump let the play go through, then make the call. This would have allowed a situation where he could confer with his colleagues before making such a critical mistake, yet preserve the play's result in case the...

I hear what you are saying D., but in comparison to what is floating around as far as Baseball S & C info, the true methods are "secrets" because nobody really seems to understand them. For example, when will "programs" stop listing horizontal pressing first in a routine and "Leg" day be a few sets of leg press and some leg curls? A nice program of squats, cleans, deads and snatches are a "secret" because so few actually prescribe/perform these lifts. Of course as you know that is just...

This is not a comparison of swing styles. The topic endorses a swing that gets the bat head into the zone early and stays through the zone through contact into folowthrough. This type of swing is rotational with accompanying weight shift. If you look back on some of the posts and pictures, you will see the bat head actually travels to the rear as it is drawn down into the zone. (Note the curving of the bat as the result of the angular accelleration.)...

I’ve got to agree with everyone saying to make the field larger. My oldest son had the unique comparison of playing both LL & Pony baseball in his 11yo and 12yo years. Pony baseball is major league rules baseball with fences at 210 in the corners and 250 to center. I believe the bases were 70 and pitching was close to 50. These dimensions allowed the kids to play real baseball. Leadoffs, stealing on the pitcher, learning to hold base runners, learning to hit cut offs that were more than...

You're kidding, I hope. Every pitcher has an occasional rough outting. I know a kid that once gave up 13 runs in .1 innings -- throwing 65 pitches. I'm glad he was given another chance. This summer he was 8-2-1 against very good competition. Concerning the comparison between these kids -- it sounds like a good "problem" for NF -- which one is #1 seems like a moot point.

We wish Robert the very best. The one thing going to college will do is allow him to further develop as both a pitcher and catcher. While most think he will be a hitter in pro ball, he has the arm to pitch. Three years in the Pac 10 should clear things up a bit. Shep, I hope your kidding about that AA/Pac10 comparison. Having seen some A games and some D1 regional games this year I'd have to say good D1 teams, even if they were used to wood bats, would not do well in an A league. I do think they might be able to win a game or two at that level because some of the college pitchers are very good and perhaps be able to win a few more than that vs short season A which is comprised to some degree of players just out of college but advanced A and AA would be completely out of their reach. Matt, I have to disagree. I can't buy the .1 of a second difference between the high school average and the MLB average. Not sure what you mean here. Are you making a comparison between a game poptime and a showcase poptime? If so, the experienced catcher doesn't go into what I think you are calling a "full squat" with a baserunner on during game situations. Therefore the "squat" of the catcher shouldn't enter into the showcase vs. game pop time. However the catcher can decrease their...

What I consider to be a high school catcher probably differs from what you thought I meant. I like to find a nice comparison high level swing from similar angle with similar setup. One very similar role model which I found surprising was Yaz. You might fid it interesting to compare Yaz to BRandon/look for similarities/differences. Brandon seems to be starting already somewhat loaded up on the back foot, then when he takes an inward turn with weight already back it causes some sway and turning of the back leg without much turn of the hips/body. This gets the legs spreading early...

The Sox dominated in the playoffs as did the Bears but regular seasons no comparison. Sox within 1 more bad week of losing division and looked bad to average for about 6 weeks. Bears dominated throughout entire season despite a very average offense. Ouch, that loss to the Dolphins still stings. Never forget Marino shredding the vaunted 46 defense and then reading about Ditka/Ryan fisticuffs at halftime.

Let's start with a better definition. My hitting theory is that the hands and hips drive the swing. I've developed what I call the "Second Engine"...or...the proper usage of the hands. The Second Engine implies there is a first engine...the hips. Using the hands and hips properly to create separation leads to "stretch and fire" mechanics...which is what I call "instantaneous launch". When the time from the "go" decison to contact is intantaneous....you're on your way. Timing becomes...
