An overused phrase comes to mind here. It is what it is. Certainly, if no one were willing to play at minor league salaries and inconveniences, then it would not exist as a going concern. The dream and an abundant supply of players willing to chase those dreams keeps the costs down. It is similar to the starving rock band. They sign a contract for peanuts and they are upset when someone else profits from them. Many do not consider the expense and the risk associated with developing talent...

I must admit that is a pretty good line, athough I don't remember calling myself a big league catcher in the same sence Vance is calling himself a major league scout. I would agree that bat speed was an issue, and that the Sox did him a favor with the invite. However, for a man born in 1963, and playing baseball full time for the first time in his life in 1994 I would think that bat speed would be the least of his problems. He jumped into a profession where his peers had been playing the game full time for most of their lives. Scouts today would drool over a 17 year baseball player with Jordans athletic ability and mental make-up.

The average minor league income is generally in the red, your not gonna make money playing in the minor leagues, you just have to play and work your way up to make more money. Baseball is a passion more than a job, look at it as you do any entertainment profession, when your a nobody your going to get paid like a nobody, but when your a Tom Cruise or Al Pacino type talent your gona get paid like one. its like anything in business, the more risk, the more reward, bottom line.

Hey, being a coach for the LL team is not fun, you have to be in every game 1 hr earlier, under 100 degree heat, hitting ground balls or fly balls to the players. You take blame for every loss while kids got all the credit for the win. Coaching is a very hard job to do especially at LL level, because you...
