Expectations of players (and parents) playing in college baseball

It was triggered by Swampboy’s post below in another thread: --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- “What optimistic players and parents imagine as a "normal" college baseball career is extremely rare. Very, very few players earn regular playing time early, stay healthy, become an increasingly significant contributor to the team, avoid...

I didn't want to take anything away from Rob's post about his son's ex HS teammate, I think its great that the kid is getting his opportunity on a national stage and hope he does fantastic..... But... It is hard to believe that the NCAA can find a kid ineligible at this time of the year. Grades would have been posted a month ago. I don’t specifically care what the kid did, that’s between his team, him and his family. It seems odd that whatever he did was done after the last game he played.

Detached equipment

Here’s a post that was made on another board in a forum that had few umpires. I thought I’d post it here to see if the umpires would care to comment. Ground ball to the infield, and the fielder fires to first. The throw is off target, to the home plate side, pulling the 1st baseman off of the bag. His foot is clearly not in contact with the bag. He catches the ball, and reaches around to tag the runner as he is being passed. He does this, before the runner reaches the bag. Only thing is, the...
