There are many great stories, maybe we will tell them some day. Also, my own son is an inspirational story. Here are just some of the ones we know who have a great story behind their success, that should be told. Every story is different. The Nava story is something to behold. Jonny Venters was a skinny lefty scout team team mate of my son in 2003, who maybe hit 84 or 85 on the gun as he headed to a middle of the pack juco program. The Braves took him as a DNF and signed him 5 or 6 years ago. Man, did they teach how to pitch since then. That guy really play now.

Although Blue Mountain is in its first year to actually play baseball they have fielded a competitve team. Made up of many JUCO transfers they will surprise alot of teams this year. Coach Fowler has coached at the high school level for many years and is a local high school grad of the area. He has recruited N MS very well to find his core players. Currently they are playing at the SportsPlex in New Albany and have to share with the local high school. They have plans to build their own...

Does anyone want to re-look at how the Commonwealth District is starting to shape up. Alot of people thought Stafford did not have a chance, guess what!! 7-1 overall and 5-1 District, not a bad start for Stafford. They have 3 GOOD starting pitchers in Daniel King (3-0), Josh Mellet (2-1) and Thomas Fowler (2-0). Awesome defense and GREAT new Coaches and a brand new ATTITUDE!!!

I've been lucky enough to meet Stan a few times. The last time was at our All American game in 2003 (Then the Aflac All American Game). He was always one of the good guys and never gave the impression he was extra important. He always had his harmonica in his pocket and would often entertain. Surely Stan or maybe Bob Feller hold the record for signing autographs. Stan was one of the greatest hitters ever and an even greater representative of the game. Although only a JV coach, Scott Fowler, formerly of Princess Anne, has contributed a lot of time and energy into the program at Norfolk Academy. He often devotes his spare time to field maintenance and spending extra time instructing his players. He has a great knowledge of the game and deserves to have an oppurtunity to be a varsity coach in the near future.

Newscout, Not saying this is their top six, but these are the kids who threw the six games this past weekend- All six threw well enough to win and five of them did. That's why they are headed to the "Big Show". Thomas, Bundy, Workman, Fleece, Bettis and Boydston. Montgomery and Nicholson relieved, and they still had the likes of Choate, Lytle, Fowler...in the wings. All top notch pitchers. There is no doubt the Tigers and Mustangs pitching staff is just as talented.

NewScout apparently the name does not fit you since you know who was on DBAT's pitching staff in 2003. No one here from DBAT is going to bite on your question regarding the best staff we've had. All the previous players you have listed have gone on to have successful careers after high school and we hope the same for this group of young men. By the way you omitted the following pitchers on the 2007 staff: Lytle Boydston Fowler Montgomery Nicholson Its a team effort by all 20 players. And...

The following message from the President of Rutgers was just posted to all members of the USNA community: Thank you for your message. I was at the game but did not hear the obscene chants and only learned about them afterward. This kind of behavior is disgraceful and indefensible. Sadly, it obscured the very positive displays that evening, including...

I am sure there will be a number of high dollar contracts struck this off-season but it is likely the big bucks and headlines will go to Machado and Harper. So I thought it might be worth some discussion on them to see what folks think they will actually get and where they go. Until this fall I was sure Machado was more valuable. Better durability, infielder, batter contact and similar power numbers. He might have cost himself with his lack of hustle in the playoffs. With the Yankees...

Dexter Fowler is someone we are very familiar with. In fact, he is one of my most favorite kids that we watched play when they were young. For those that follow travel baseball, Dexter was a mainstay for East Cobb. He played a ton of Travel Baseball both summer and fall for several years before being drafted and of course he played...

The draft is a happy day for a few and a big disappointment for most. The new CBA has changed the way organizations draft. First couple rounds is all about talent provided the player is agreeable to the deal. Rounds 5-10, even some earlier selections, are simply part of the organizations financial plan. Often we see 1st round talent slip to the late rounds or not drafted at all. The actual signing period clears up some of the strategy used by MLB clubs. You will see players drafted early...

I think the developmental programs are not the answer. Maybe in some areas of the country. Do think they are good programs and help lots of kids, just don't have a big impact on baseball. I don't think it's a matter of talking kids into playing baseball, but taking a different approach that might cause kids (of all races) to want to persue baseball on their own. Specialization in one sport is part of the problem. Many specialize in football and basketball for the very reasons talked about...
